With the first Five Nights At Freddy's game launch in 2014, the series has arguably become one of the most well-known titles in the gaming community. Its meteoric ascent into popularity hasn't been unblemished by controversy, but its minimalist approach to horror has won it a legion of dedicated fans. The concept has inspired eight games in total, with five spin-offs and a host of novels.

The December 2021 release of the latest installment, Five Nights At Freddy's: Security Breach, has been enjoyed by both returning players of the series as well as new ones. With brand new characters, lore, and a massive map to explore, the latest game has gained lots of attention, especially with popular content creators racing to do playthroughs. However, there are a few things you should know before diving in.

10 Understand The Chronology

First 3 FNAF Chronology

The chronology of the Five Nights At Freddy's game series jumps around quite a bit, sometimes making the game order confusing for players. Although it isn't vital to have played every Five Nights At Freddy's game prior to Security Breach, understanding where it fits in the overall timeline does help you gain an understanding of the game and recognize references.

Despite a good portion of sequels to the original Five Nights At Freddy's actually taking place before the events in the first game, Five Nights At Freddy's: Security Breach takes place at the opposite end of the timeline. Even with the evident 1980s Glam Rock inspiration, the events of the most recent game are estimated to occur after the year 2023, making it the latest game in the timeline.

9 It Is A First-Person Adventure Game

Despite the first games fitting into the genre of point-and-click games, as the series expanded so did the type of game that was released. With there being additional business simulators and augmented reality additions to the Five Nights At Freddy's game series, there are options to suit most people's preferred style of game.

Five Nights At Freddy's: Security Breach takes the form of a first-person adventure game where you explore the expansive map of the Pizzaplex (the Freddy Fazbear-inspired mall), playing as the young character of Gregory who needs to find a way to escape.

8 There Are Multiple Endings

Five Nights At Freddy's has usually only given players two options in the past: survive the five nights or die to the murderous animatronics. The latest installment in the game series, however, brings with it the possibility to gain multiple endings.

There are a total of six endings that can be achieved, with one 'bad' ending and five other 'good' endings that all have varying degrees of positivity in regards to who end up surviving. In order for the game to end, you must escape, however, the way in which you do so (and the choices you make along the way) all affect how your playthrough will reach its conclusion.

7 Pay Attention To Your Outline

The most important aspect of Five Nights At Freddy's: Security Breach is the need to navigate the map in a stealthy manner, avoiding security robots, murderous animatronics, and the security guard, Vanessa. In order to aid with this stealth aspect to the game, at the bottom right of your screen is an outline, which's colors change in regards to the degree of detection by enemies.

Blue means that you are undetected, yellow means that you are in potential danger, and red means that you have been detected. It can sometimes be hard to distinguish whether or not you've been detected and those few seconds that you take figuring out can often cost you valuable running-away time. To combat this, keep a constant eye on your outline, especially when in high-stealth areas or situations.

6 Conserve Your Battery Usage

FNAF flashlight recharging stations

Returning fans of the series will be very familiar with the concept of conserving battery usage for when you need it most, as it has been a consistently important element of the Five Nights At Freddy's game series. In this game, however, you have two items that have batteries that you must conserve: your flashlight, which you need to use when navigating the darkened Pizzaplex, and the Freddy animatronic, which you can use to avoid other animatronics and access certain areas.

Although there are recharging stations for both throughout the game, you never know when you'll next encounter one in your area of exploration, meaning that it's important to save your battery-powered items for when you really need them. It is also important to note that if you are inside Freddy and he runs out of battery, after a certain point he can kill you, so it's extra important to keep an eye on his power level.

5 Conserve Your Sprint Ability

Although this game emphasizes the need to utilize stealth, there are occasions where you will need to use the sprint function in order to successfully escape from pursuers. Whether this is due to you accidentally alerting a S.T.A.F.F. robot, needing to escape an animatronic, or even just leaving an area quickly, your sprint ability is invaluable.

However, just like with your flashlight battery, your sprint ability is limited through the inclusion of stamina, which runs out when you sprint consistently. It is important to also conserve your sprint ability, especially when approaching an area where an enemy encounter is likely. The blue bar at the bottom of your screen shows your stamina gauge, paying attention to it is key.

4 Avoid The S.T.A.F.F.

Aside from the deadly animatronic characters that dwell in the Pizzaplex, there are also S.T.A.F.F robots that patrol areas of the map. These robots fulfill the functions of security guards, cleaners, and map providers. Although these robots are not as initially terrifying as some of the other animatronics, such as Moon and DJ Music Man, they can be just as detrimental to your playthrough.

Despite not being able to kill you, security robots will send an alert once they see you, which means that they alert the animatronics who can kill you. Some robots will help you by handing out maps, but it's better to avoid them unless necessary.

3 Use Hiding Places

It is almost impossible to run straight from one location to another without alerting the S.T.A.F.F. robots that patrol most areas. A lot of the time you'll have to hold back, observe their movement patterns, and then rush to the next safe spot until the next gap opens up.

Luckily, there are hiding places around the map, such as photo booths, strollers, lockers, and ice cream carts which you can use to either get through an area without detection or hide from animatronics once detected. If you are running from an animatronic, however, it is important that you make sure you break line of sight before getting into the hiding spot so that they don't find you.

2 Security Passes Get You Places

When playing Five Nights At Freddy's: Security Breach, you'll notice that a lot of locations that lead off from the main areas are locked, requiring a certain level of security level clearance to enter them. There are up to ten security clearance levels that you can gain without the use of bugs and glitches - however, the level ten doors are stated to be for future DLC releases.

A lot of the time, gaining access to locked rooms and corridors is necessary, meaning that every time you find yourself in a security-style room, you should keep an eye out for a security pass (that are in mini Freddy heads) to up your level of access. Keeping an eye out in general in this game is advisable as there are many hidden aspects that can often go overlooked despite their usefulness.

1 When In Doubt, Check Your Faz-Watch

As the most vital piece of equipment in the whole game, your Faz-Watch is absolutely invaluable. It allows you to check the Cameras around the Pizzaplex for enemy animatronics, as well as view your Map for easy navigation. You are also able to access your Missions and view Messages on the Faz-Watch.

Although you will likely sometimes encounter blind spots on your map, whenever you need help navigating or remembering the aim of your quest, it's always advisable just to give it a quick once-over and make sure you're on track.
