Well, dang. Those of you playing For Honor have yet another super-strong-looking new hero and a hunk of melodramatic Viking content to enjoy with Year 3, Season 3.

You’ll often hear (or snark on the subject yourself, that’s just as likely) that creative new IPs just don’t come along often enough anymore. Today’s gaming climate is all about re-releases, remasters and remakes; nostalgia for fantastic games of the past is so lucrative that it’s getting harder and harder to try something new in the present.

Ubisoft’s For Honor was something pretty darn new, however, when it arrived on the scene in February 2017. A vicious, visceral competitive action game, it centers around gory battles between Vikings, Samurai and Knights. Players choose a faction to side with and set about lopping limbs off the opponents in 1v1, 2v2 or 4v4 game modes across a range of maps.

The combat, with its lock-on, block/attack up, left or right style, is unlike anything we’ve really played before. Production values are sky-high, and Ubisoft definitely have something special on their hands here. For Honor has had a bumpy ride, with the whole going free-to-play thing and all, and issues with balancing and such have been rife, but the concept is still as fantastic as ever.

What The New Update Adds To For Honor

As such, it’s great to see the post-launch support continuing. We’ve arrived all the way at Year 3, Season 3 now, and Ubisoft have just dropped a new trailer showing off the latest hero. The Jormungandr will join the Viking faction in two tasty feral flavors: the male variant, Gretar, and the female, Hulda. Let’s meet Hulda, shall we?

That’s a hecking large ax she has, whichever way you slice it. From that brief glimpse, it seems that something akin to a heavier Shaman could be on the way here. The Season will begin on August 1, and the Jormungandr will be available to play right from the get-go for Year Three Pass owners. Otherwise, you’ll have to wait until August 8 and buy the character for 15,000 steel.

Along with that, a new Breach map called Storr Stronghold will be added, along with balance changes to various heroes. You can get a sneak preview of everything coming with the new Season by tuning into the Warrior’s Den livestream over on the game’s Twitch channel, on Thursday, July 25 at 9am PT.
