When For Honor first launched, opinions were mixed to say the least. Many players latched on to the idea of a PvP swordfighting game. The parry system delivered by providing deep, tactical gameplay that aped the better parts of fighting games. Sadly, the servers were not up to par. Early adopters cited connection issues as they gave the game low scores. There was also the issue of microtransactions, a big no-no in a full-priced game. Yet Ubisoft managed to turn the game around, and now it miraculously begins the fourth season of its third year.

For Honor Year 3 Season 4 is called "Sun Da" and is now available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. The new season focuses on the Wu Lin faction and the titular Sun Da. As is customary, the new season introduces a new hero. Sun Da is that hero, but there's a bit of a twist. Sun Da actually belongs to a class called Zhanhu. There's a female version of the class called Fu Huo. While both Zhanhu will play the same, they have big lore differences.

Sun Da himself is described as a "dark force who travels west carrying terror and dread into battle." He experimented with science-based weapons in his laboratory. Fu Huo, meanwhile, is a loyal servant of Empress Dou. Both use a long sword and surprising agility to fight. They can also utilize artillery for new types of attacks that burn enemies. Year 3 pass holders should already have access to both Zhanhu, while other players have to wait for the 14th to buy them for 15,000 Steel.

November 14 will also see the launch of For Honor's Spectator Mode Beta. All players are encouraged to try the feature and give Ubisoft their feedback.

By this point. For Honor has a dedicated player base. One that's large enough for Ubisoft to keep making content for the game and feel confident trying out new features. It's not often a game gets a second chance. Or even a third year as a healthy online multiplayer title. Hopefully Year 3 Season 4 continues to please with its new dual hero and Spectator Mode.
