The Fortnite rumor mill is working overtime right now and all signs currently point towards the map getting its very own volcano.

If your game only has one map then you need to keep that map interesting. Fortnite does a terrific job of that. The decision to have just one place for the Battle Royale players to battle it out was a brave one, but no one does updates and keeps things fresh like Fortnite's developers, Epic.

The major changes to Fortnite's map really began when a meteor struck and created a huge crater where Dusty Depot used to be. Even more drastic changes were introduced at the start of season five thanks to a missile creating rifts all over the map. A huge part of the island became a desert and we even got a golf course to play around with.

Now another big change is coming as we near the end of season five, and there's what feels like a pretty solid theory on what it might bring, courtesy of the Fortnite: Battle Royale Leaks Twitter account. A number of things highlighted by FNBR point towards the Fortnite map soon having a volcano, complete with a lava pit where players can currently find Loot Lake.

The first clue comes in the form of a Loot Lake mask, which you can check out in the tweet above. There is a volcano in the mask and also what appears to be a lava pool. Clue number two, players have also discovered the term "VolcanicPit" in the game's files. As if all of that wasn't enough, there's more. A new loading screen shows Fortnite character Brite Bomber touching the giant purple cube that everyone has been talking about. Her reflection appears to be an evil version of herself, and if you look closely there's a volcano on the evil Brite Bomber's t-shirt.

When you consider all the above it feels like less of a theory and more of a fact that Loot Lake is about to be replaced by an ominous volcano and lava pit. However, Epic may very well change its mind. There's also the very real possibility that everything we have discovered has been put in place to throw us off the scent. Fortnite never ceases to surprise us and volcano or not, we fully expect whatever's next to be no different.
