Players who rely on Aim Assist in Fortnite are in trouble.
Fortnite is one of those things that has become so entrenched in society and the mainstream that it feels as if it has more haters than lovers. Whether that's true or not, it remains one of the most popular games on the planet right now. It has brought plenty of controversy along with it over the course of the past two and a half years, though.
One of the most controversial additions to the game was Aim Assist - a feature included for players using controllers rather than keyboard + mouse.
For obvious reasons, aiming with a KB+M is a lot easier than using a controller. However, players quickly learned that Aim Assist came with an unintentional added bonus for those using it. As demonstrated in the clip above, players who spammed the aim button on their controllers could track players through things like smoke, structures, and in this case, crops.
In what will likely be as controversial a move as adding it in the first place, Epic has revealed Aim Assist will soon be leaving the game. On March 13, 2020, to be exact. The update rolled out on that day will remove the "Use Legacy Look Controls" and with it, Aim Assist. Epic believes the improvements made to Aim Assist render it necessary to remove this feature from the game.
Players who currently use Legacy Aim Assist will need to switch to Exponential or Linear going forward. However, act now, or anytime before the March 13 update, and players will be able to keep hold of their current sensitivities. They can do so by heading to the controller options in-game and using the "Copy From Legacy" option. With Aim Assist soon becoming a thing of the past, we wonder what streamers will blame all of their misgivings on going forward.
