Stormwing planes are back on Fortnite but don't worry - they are only available in a special Limited Time Mode.
Considering the controversy that arrived on Fortnite Island via the reveal of the v8.20 update, it's no surprise that the v8.40 update is a relatively light one. The patch only changed the game ever so slightly, and there is nothing for players to complain about. Actually, who are we kidding? We're sure they'll find something.
A legendary version of the Infantry Rifle has been introduced via the patch and you can also now make a fuss about your pets. What's not to love, right? Well, the return of the dreaded Stormwing planes. We can almost feel a litany of players rushing to their keyboards as we type. However, there really is nothing to worry about. The Stormwings are only back as part of a Limited Time Mode.
The mode is called Air Royale and is actually a lot of fun. If the grind of landing, being eliminated, and starting again over and over is getting tiring, then this new mode gives you the chance to take a break from that for a few rounds. It's only open to Duos and requires you to fly the returning Stormwing as you attempt to take down other pairs flying rival planes.
You start in a Stormwing and have three lives. Every time a rival manages to destroy your plane or your aircraft touches the floor, you lose a life. The last team left after all the other Duos have lost their lives will be declared the winner. It really is as much fun as it sounds and in a lot of ways seems like a completely different game.
Since there has been a lot for players to complain about at the moment, it seems as if Epic has rolled out an update that no one can have an issue with. Like we said above though, watch this space. In the meantime, make the most of Air Royale mode since, like any of Fortnite's Limited Time Modes, it sadly won't be around forever.
