Fortnite x Mayhem is the game's latest crossover event, and during a year packed with them, this might be our favorite to date.

Fortnite has not become a global mainstream phenomenon by sheer luck alone. The Epic team works tirelessly to keep the game interesting to its fans, and has done a tremendous job in doing so thus far. In 2019, one of the main ways it's accomplished that is through crossover events with other mainstream franchises.

Those have come in the form of Marvel's Thanos invading Fortnite Island, players being able to assume the identity of John Wick, and even a Stranger Things collaboration to celebrate the release of season three of the show. What we haven't seen is Fortnite team up with a rival game - until now. Enter Psycho and Claptrap from Borderlands.

Epic teased that a crossover between the two games was in the cards, and now it's arrived. You can check out the launch trailer for it above. Be warned, if you love both games as much as we do, you'll feel an immediate need to drop everything and go play it right away. The good news is you can... once you're done reading this article and perusing The Gamer, of course.

The Fortnite x Mayhem event has already landed, and runs all the way through to September 10, 2019. Three days after it comes to an end, Borderlands 3 will be released. The event includes a brand new rift zone set in Pandora, the setting for Borderlands 3. Fortnite even adopts the game's aesthetic while you're inside it. You'll also be able to purchase a Psycho skin and Claptrap back bling, or earn them via limited edition, Borderlands-themed challenges.

But wait, there's more! While in Pandora, if you go long enough without sustaining any damage, you'll generate a shield, just like in Borderlands. Also, for the Creative Mode aficionados among you, there are now a multitude of Borderlands-themed objects to use on that side of things so that players can create their very own Pandora. Like we said, this is possibly the best Fortnite crossover so far, and we plan on playing it as much as possible while we still can.
