Cast your mind back more than two years to the start of Fortnite Chapter 2. The original island was sucked into a black hole and the game went offline for a while. It sounds like a massive risk on Epic's part, but players were so keen to see what was going to happen, and so eager to have their game back, that a lot of them just sat and watched streams of the black hole for hours waiting for Fortnite to return.

As we near the end of 2021, Fortnite is about to encounter another world-ending event. Epic confirmed via the trailer below that Chapter 2 will come to an end on December 4. Agent Peely and some other familiar Fortnite faces can be seen walking in slow-mo towards The Convergence, the constantly evolving POI right in the middle of the map. The Cube Queen can be seen standing on top of it, implying players will have to face her in some sort of epic showdown.

Chapter 2 is actually coming to an end earlier than many expected. While there have been rumors out there that the start of Chapter 3 is on the horizon, this season wasn't supposed to end until December 7. Chapter 2 is also coming to an end two seasons earlier than Chapter 1 did. However, Chapter 2 has technically lasted longer than Chapter 1 since its seasons have generally been longer.

As teased in the trailer, Chapter 2 will likely end with some sort of massive in-game event. Fortnite has a pretty good track record when it comes to that sort of thing. From an Ariana Grande concert to millions of players working together to take down Galactus, no one does an in-game event quite like Fortnite, and it's hard to imagine the finale of Chapter 2 is going to disappoint.

The Finale will begin at 4 pm EST on December 4, 2021. You'll want to log in at least once between now and then though, as doing so will get you a whopping 225,000 XP. It's also a way to get all of you lapsed players back in so you can complete any lingering quests and spend any bars you might have left over. Mark your calendars, and we'll see you in The Loop on December 4.
