Epic has added a weapon called the Charge Shotgun to Fortnite for Season 3, and it is unlike any other shotgun to have called the island home so far.
The new additions made to Fortnite in Season 3 might appear to be entirely water-based on the surface, but that's not strictly true. Yes, Aquaman and a very flooded map have stolen the headlines for the past two weeks, but there are other smaller additions that deserve some of the spotlight too.
The Charge Shotgun is one of those things. A new weapon that, surprise surprise, is a member of Fortnite's extensive and often controversial Shotgun family. Controversial as there have been members of said family in the past that have been critiqued by players of the game. The Pump Shotgun, for example, was deemed to be far too powerful by many players when first introduced.
No word yet on whether players have the same opinion of the Charge Shotgun, but the brand new weapon can pack quite a punch when in the right hands. The weapon can be used like any other shotgun in the game. Just hit the right trigger at close range and chances are a lot of damage will be dealt. However, players who have the time and are willing to take the risk can charge up this particular Shotgun, as the name suggests.
To charge the weapon, players need to hold down the aim button. If no one else is around, it will feel like the Shotgun reaches full capacity almost instantly. If someone is raining fire down on you, those few seconds will feel like an eternity. As for how much of a punch the Charge Shotgun packs, that depends on the rarity of the weapon. There are six different levels ranging from Common to Mythic.
Increased rarity not only ups the potential damage a charged shot can deal but also decreases the amount of time it takes for the weapon to charge. As for getting your hands on an elusive Mythic Charge Shotgun, that will require a trip to Catty Corner. There, players will need to hunt down Kit. Defeat Kit and the adorable kitten-turned-mech will drop the Mythic-level weapon.
