The latest iOS update could delete Fortnite from your iPhone. Here's a way to make sure that doesn't happen.

One of the biggest stories of the summer has revolved around the ongoing battle between Apple and Epic. When Epic attempted to bypass some of Apple's fees, the latter removed Fortnite from its app store. The resulting back and forth has led to Fortnite becoming unavailable on Apple devices for good, and those who already have the app on an iPhone have been left in season three without any support from Epic should they need it.

It might not be quite the same, but that does mean people who already had Fortnite installed on their device can still sort of play the game. That's unless it is forcibly deleted which is at risk of happening right now. The Fortnite Status Twitter account warned players that installing iOS 14 can result in apps being deleted, and one of those apps could well be Fortnite.

For most apps, that isn't an issue. They can simply be reinstalled once the update is complete. However, for Fortnite, that is not an option. There's nothing malicious about this on Apple's part. It's just something its software does to free up space for the update. The good news for those who want to keep Fortnite on an iOS device is there is a way to avoid it.

Before the update begins, users will be met with a prompt that reads, "Temporarily Remove Apps to Install the Software Update?" If that happens, hit cancel and then head to Settings. From there, go to General and then iPhone Storage. There, you will be able to delete the apps and other elements of your choice rather than leaving the decision to the software.

Once you've freed up enough space, try installing the update again. If the previous prompt doesn't appear, the update can be installed with no risk of Fortnite falling by the wayside. If it does pop up a second time, you will need to run through the steps again and free up some more space. It's worth doing too, even if you don't play the outdated version of Fortnite any longer. iOS devices with Fortnite installed are being listed for a lot of money on auction sites right now.
