Fortnite's Season 4: Nexus War has begun, introducing a bunch of Marvel's Avengers who are facing off against the big-bad cosmic entity known as Galactus.

As far as Fortnite crossovers go, this is arguably one of the biggest and most anticipated. The now-purchasable battle pass comes resplendent with comic book hero skins, such as She-Hulk, Iron Man, Mystique, Storm, and more. Additional X-Men, namely Wolverine, will be making an appearance shortly after release.

The Marvel-infused Season 4 Fortnite update doesn't only inject the game with simple skins, however, as some of them can be altered at the press of a button, sometimes even showing off the character's supernatural abilities. One such example is Mystique, who has a special emote that allows her to mimic an opponent's appearance. Then, there's Iron Man, who can switch between billionaire playboy and Avenger at the drop of a steel helmet.

An in-game comic book details how and why the Avengers arrived on the battle royale island, claiming that a source of immense power drew both Galactus and Thor into a rift. Fortnite Creative Director, Donald Mustard, exudes enthusiasm for the new event on Twitter, relating that "it's ALL connected" and "is about to kick into overdrive." Though not surprising, given the forthcoming Marvel theme has been known for several weeks, Season 4 still remains a welcome surprise for many, despite not every fan being able to enjoy it.

The new Fortnite Season drops in the midst of controversy, as two titans in tech continue to go head to head in an all-out business battle to reshape the landscape of this industry - not unlike Fortnite's brand new Nexus War. Only, instead of comic book heroes and villains, it's Epic Games suing Apple, thus disallowing the game to be played on iOS devices. The developer is likewise going after Google for similar concerns, but the main "villain" in Epic's eyes has and will continue to be the Alphabet-led company.

Fortunately, the new Fortnite season does away with the bad Apple propaganda, reverting back to their old ways of making allies, this time with Marvel. This amassing of comic book icons and the assortment of updated challenges will keep fans preoccupied in the meantime as the wait for the Epic v Apple ruling intensifies.

Are the Avengers capable of defeating the world-rending Galactus and saving all reality? Find out now in Season 4 of Fortnite.
