Professional Fortnite player Daniel 'Dubs' Walsh took to Twitter to post a lengthy apology for making a racist comment that was heard through another Twitch user's stream.

Dubs has blown up in recent years due to his natural skill and ability on Fortnite, which has translated to a successful following on Twitch and other social media platforms. With a large following comes a large responsibility to role model for other aspiring gamers and fans. Shockingly, Dubs did not take that into account when he was caught uttering a racial slur on February 29th.

The video of the incident quickly went viral, being talked about across the internet, but mainly gained traction on the r/FortniteCompetitive subreddit.

FaZe quickly took action, releasing a statement on the very same day.

Despite the outrage and discussion on whether Dubs should be allowed to compete in future Fortnite events and whether he should be indefinitely kicked from FaZe Clan, there were no new updates during the month of March. This Thursday, Dubs took to Twitter to post screenshots of a lengthy apology written on his phone's notes app.

The note summarized the actions that Dubs has taken since the incident, such as completing "sensitivity training to learn more about the history and original use of the some of the commonly misused offensive words." Dubs has also had discussions with a "cultural sensitivity coach" to share what he has learned. Additionally, Daniel took some time off from competing "in order to fully take a step back and understand why [he] play[s] Fortnite." The note emphasizes that he has learned from his actions and will look to think before he speaks in the future.

Dubs is showing signs of serious remorse for his actions through this note and by taking more than a month off from competition. However, the community remains split. Responses to his apology were mixed to say the least, with some taking his side, but others harshly stating that what he did cannot be forgiven. It appears Dubs is still a member of FaZe Clan as his Twitter bio reads "Professional Fortnite player for FaZe Clan," and that does not looking to be changing anytime soon.
