Highlights

  • Dark Voyager and The Reaper are two of the rarest skins in Fortnite, given their original release in Chapter 1 Season 3 Battle Pass.
  • Black Widow, released in Chapter 1 Season 8 Item Shop, is an extremely rare skin that has not appeared in the Item Shop since its original release over 1,600 days ago.
  • The Renegade Raider and Aerial Assault Trooper are some of the oldest and rarest skins in Fortnite, as they were part of Chapter 1 Season 1 Battle Pass and are rarely seen in-game.

Fortnite Battle Royale has been around since 2017, and in the years that have passed, the game has amassed quite the collection of character skins. Each week seemingly brings new, unique, and creative skins to the in-game shop, and, of course, in the Battle Pass each and every season.

Due to the incredible amount of skins that have been released so far, there are now many rare ones. These skins are rare because they either haven't been featured in the shop for many months, sometimes years, or they were released in a previous season's Battle Pass and therefore have never returned. Epic Games seems to have a vault of rare skins with only a slim chance of them seeing the light of day again, and this article will show the hardest ones to get.

Updated on November 27, 2023, by Ashely Claudino: As time goes by, skins come and go as always. While some become even rarer each day, there are also skins that make a return and aren't considered as hard to get or as OG as they once were. This article has been updated in order to feature even more entries and make it easier to tell which skins are truly rare and only available for a small portion of Fortnite's player base. On top of this, some entries have also been removed, as they were added to the Item Shop quite recently.

14 Dark Voyager

Chapter 1 Season 3 Battle Pass

Dark voyager skin in-game and promo image

The Dark Voyager skin in Fortnite is truly a rare gem, one that harkens back to the original days of playing the battle royale mode. It was the tier 70 reward in the Chapter 1 Season 3 Battle Pass. It's known for its bright and vibrant orange markings.

The Dark Voyager did have a remixed version in Season X called the Eternal Voyager. Rocking this rare skin in Chapter 4 shows that you are a gamer who has been around Fortnite for many years.

13 The Reaper

Chapter 1 Season 3 Battle Pass

The Reaper Fortnite

The Reaper, or the 'OG' John Wick skin, has an interesting history. This legendary skin became available and unlockable during Chapter 1 Season 3 as the tier 100 Battle Pass skin. The Reaper skin is a part of the Hired Guns set and is known for its slick and clean presentational style.

Back in Chapter 1, it was much harder to complete the Battle Pass; even though XP was important to get some Battle Stars, it was divided into tiers that would mostly be unlocked by completing quests, as they were the main source of Battle Stars. The player base was significantly smaller during Season 3, and not everyone who played got the Battle Pass and managed to finish it in time to unlock The Reaper skin.

12 Black Widow

Chapter 1 Season 8 Item Shop

original black widow skin in fortnite

The Black Widow skin was released during Chapter 1 Season 8 during a Marvel crossover in Fortnite. Later on, Epic Games released another Black Widow skin called Black Widow (Snow Suit), and the original skin has never been seen since. A lot of fans have been waiting for the first Fortnite Black Widow skin to return to the Item Shop, but many have given up hope on it ever happening.

The original Black Widow skin was available in late April and early May 2019, over 1,600 days ago. Unfortunately, nearly five years later, it has not made any appearances in the Item Shop since then.

11 Omega (Lights)

Chapter 1 Season 4 Battle Pass

season 4 loading screen omega fighting carbine

Omega was the Chapter 1 Season 4 tier 100 Battle Pass skin. However, one of its variants is harder to find than the two Season 3 skins mentioned above. Season 4 introduced alternative styles to Fortnite, and Omega was one of the first skins to get this treatment.

It was possible to unlock several additional styles for Omega. However, the last style was quite hard to obtain, and it was arguably the most noticeable; Omega would receive lights after level 80. This means that only those who managed to reach tier 100 and level 80 during Season 4 got access to Omega with lights.

Omega's variant with lights is quite rare because even though many owned the Battle Pass back in Season 4, not everyone managed to reach the required tier and level to unlock this last style.

10 Sparkle Specialist

Chapter 1 Season 2 Battle Pass

Fortnite Sparkle Specialist Skin

The Sparkle Specialist is an extremely rare Fortnite skin because it was first featured back in Chapter 1 Season 2 as part of the Season 2 Battle Pass at tier 56. Sparkle Specialist is an Epic rarity skin that's part of the Fortnite Fever set. Interestingly, a remixed version of this original skin was featured in Season X's Battle Pass - Sparkly Supreme. It seems Epic Games enjoys remixing many fan-favorite skins, hence the skins featured in Season OG.

It is hard to come across a Sparkle Specialist since, back in Season 2, many gamers were just trying out the game and didn't bother getting the Battle Pass and leveling it up as much as possible.

9 Black Knight

Chapter 1 Season 2 Battle Pass

Black Knight Fortnite

The Black Knight skin is one of the longest-running skins in Fortnite, first entering the battle royale scene way back in the original Chapter 1 Season 2. This legendary skin was made available at level 70 of the Battle Pass.

This skin, which is part of the Fort Knights Set, has been around the game for so long, but since only very few people own it, it's possible that many active players have never even laid eyes on a Black Knight. If Season 3 skins are rare, then there's no doubt that Season 2 skins are even harder to come across.

8 Reflex

GeForce Fortnite Bundle and Item Shop

geforce nvidia bundle reflex skin

The Reflex skin was available as part of a GeForce bundle released in 2018, and later on, it was added to the Item Shop. Certain bundle skins aren't very common since they required you to purchase a real item. The GeForce Fortnite bundle could be claimed by those who purchased a NVIDIA GeForce graphics card. Then, Reflex also became available in the Item Shop on March 3 and 4, 2019.

The GeForce Fortnite bundle is no longer available, and it has been over 1,700 days since it was last seen in the Item Shop. It is safe to say that this has become of the rarest skins in Fortnite.

7 Renegade Raider

Chapter 1 Season 1 Battle Pass and Item Shop

Renegade Raider Fortnite

As part of the Storm Scavengers Set, the Renegade Raider skin was first released in Chapter 1 Season 1. This original skin was made available after reaching tier 20. At the time it cost an additional 1,200 V-bucks and was considered a Rare variety skin.

The Renegade Raider skin has featured similar counterpart skins over the years including Blaze and the Gingerbread Raider. As it stands though, the original skin is very rare with very few players actually owning it due to being an original skin.

6 Aerial Assault Trooper

Chapter 1 Season 1 Battle Pass and Item Shop

Aerial Assault Fortnite

The Aerial Assault Trooper skin is one of the oldest skins in the entire battle royale section of Fortnite. It was originally released in Season 1 Chapter 1; it cost 1,200 V-Bucks, and you would only be able to get it once you got to tier 15. Modeled after the Spitfire character, it features a simple color palette and stays consistent with many of the original season's skins.

The Aerial Assault Trooper is actually one of the rarest skins in the game simply because many fans do not own it as it was from the original starting point of the battle royale. Although it became unlockable before Renegade Raider, Aerial Assault Trooper will be much harder to find in-game, as many fans prefer the Headhunter model and got it instead.

5 Galaxy

Samsung Galaxy Campaign

The Galaxy skin slides down a snow-covered hill while firing its weapon in Fortnite.

The Galaxy skin in Fortnite might just be one of the most talked-about skin due to its highly creative and unique look. This ultra-rare skin was specific to a promotion between Epic Games and Samsung. In August 2018, Samsung held a promotion with Epic Games in which those who owned the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 or the Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 would get this exclusive skin.

The Samsung Galaxy promotion is no longer available, and since this was a limited-time skin released in 2018 that will likely never return, it is considered quite rare. However, it is not as rare as some skins only exclusive to those who obtained console bundles.

4 Golden Agent Peely

Chapter 2 Season 2 Battle Pass

golden agent variant level 350 max

Skins that belong to more recent Battle Pass aren't as rare as those exclusive to Chapter 1. However, there are certain select styles that are much harder to obtain, making them nearly impossible to spot nowadays — that is the case with Agent Peely's gold style.

Even though Agent Peely could be unlocked right away with the Chapter 2 Season 2 Battle Pass, his Golden Agent style only became available at level 300. To become fully golden, you had to reach level 350 — a considerably hard feat to accomplish in a couple of months.

3 Eon

Eon Xbox One S Bundle

eon xbox one x bundle

The Eon skin was part of an Xbox Fortnite bundle back in 2018. Console bundle cosmetic items tend to be quite rare since there's a lot of investment involved. The Eon Xbox One S Bundle cost $249.99, and it was only obtained by those who could afford to get a new console to get a Fortnite skin or by those who were planning on switching consoles in the near future.

It is for these very reasons that the Eon skin is an extremely rare find in-game. It's been nearly six years since it was first released, so some of those who actually own it might not play the game anymore, or they might've acquired new skins over time that they would rather use instead.

2 Double Helix

Nintendo Switch Double Helix Bundle

Double Helix Fortnite

The Double Helix skin in Fortnite is a uniquely rare skin because it was only available as a promotion for Nintendo Switch. The Double Helix set was a Nintendo-exclusive bundle that also included some V-bucks, a back bling, a glider, and a pickaxe. This is not a skin you will see often in the game for that reason.

Just like the Eon skin, this is an extremely rare skin because it could only be claimed by those who bought the Nintendo Switch Double Helix Bundle for $299.99 back in 2018. Since this was a pretty huge commitment, not many fans got this console simply to unlock the skin.

1 Spiral Specialist

Unreleased Whistle Warrior

leaked image of spiral specialist

Spiral Specialist looks just like Whistle Warrior, a fairly common skin. However, this is considered a scrapped skin that never got to see the light of day, except when it was given away to a few Fortnite content creators along with the rest of the NFL set.

It is possible to see quite a few Whistle Warriors while playing Fortnite, but unless you find yourselfcompeting with a content creator, you won't ever come across some with a Spiral Specialist skin in their in-game locker.
