Epic has confirmed that The Mandalorian will be a key character in season five, as well as Baby Yoda and Mando's iconic ship.

The second chapter of Fortnite's fifth season came to an epic conclusion this week as Galactus finally arrived on the island. The live event that accompanied his arrival tasked players with taking control of a battle bus laden with explosives and navigating it into the mouth of the supervillain. 15.3 million of you logged in to take part, a new Fortnite record.

Once Galactus was defeated, a cutscene showing Jonesy waking up in an office was shown before the whole thing cut to black. Players were then taken to a screen counting down to season five, which has since begun. The trailer for the new season shows Jonesy jumping through the zero point and arriving on the island.

The Fortnite veteran has not come alone either. As he reveals in the Battle Pass trailer which can be seen below, he has brought a group of well-trained hunters with him. That group is led by The Mandalorian. The arrival of Mando was leaked last month, and it seems as if The Child (aka Baby Yoda aka Grogu) will be a back bling. The Mandalorian's Razor Crest ship can also be seen in the trailer below.

Other hunters coming to season five include Menace, a gladiator who appears to have brought a colosseum-style POI along with him, and Mancake, a deadly hunter made entirely out of flapjacks. Other non-playable characters have been added to the map from which players will be able to get bounties to complete. We wonder if that means Greef Karga will be popping up at some point to assign us some tasks.

We said a while ago that Epic needed something big in the pipeline to take the place of what has been a terrific Marvel-themed season. The addition of The Mandalorian is a great way to get things started. The game's storyline has also started to heat up. Speculation has begun as to what exactly is going on, especially after whoever Jonesy is on the phone with can be heard warning him about The Seven.
