Fortnite season five is finally here! Here's everything you need to know about the new season and all the changes it has brought along with it.
Normally the word seasons is associated with television shows in the media world. Fortnite has changed that. The increasingly popular video game works in seasons and even follows along with a storyline of sorts like it would if it were a TV show. On Thursday of this week, season five of Fortnite officially began, and it has changed the game in more ways than a new season ever has done before.
The anticipation for the start of Fortnite season five has been building ever since an ominous looking rocket showed up on the map. A little less than two weeks ago, that rocket launched and caused one big rift, and a number of smaller ones, across Fortnite's expansive map. Unsurprisingly, those rifts play a big role in the changes that have been brought about by season five.
Those rifts are still present, but now players can pass through them. If you jump into a rift then you will be transported to a different place on the map. Another big change is the addition of a vehicle to the game. By that, we mean a proper vehicle, not the problematic shopping cart that was introduced during season four. The new vehicle has been dubbed the All Terrain Kart by Epic Games, and it seats up to four players at a time.
Aside from the rifts and the souped-up golf carts, the other biggest change is to the map itself. Moisty Mire has disappeared completely and has been replaced by a desert area called Paradise Palms. There's also a golf course for you to drive your ATRs around on. On top of all that, the rifts seems to have brought objects from other worlds and littered them around the map, including a massive viking ship.
That's an awful lot of change to keep Fortnite interesting heading into season five and the above is really just the tip of the iceberg. You can check out everything that's new to Fortnite this season by heading to the game's official website. Even everything listed on that site won't be all though and there are likely a number of secrets to discover and even more updates that are yet to come in the coming weeks.
