Fortnite Season 8 is just around the corner, and for Valentine’s day, Epic is giving players a chance to get a free battle pass in an event called #ShareTheLove.

Announced this morning on the official Fortnite Twitter account, a short valentine’s themed trailer is accompanied by the news that a free battle pass will be given to all players who complete thirteen overtime challenges in game, before February 27.

Beginning today, the overtime challenges, which are gradually revealed, ask players to complete different challenges within the game in order to unlock the rewards.

The challenges released so far are: Collect Coins in Featured Creative Islands (15); Search chests or ammo boxes at a motel or RV park (7); and Place top 15 in Duos with a friend (3).

Among rewards for these challenges is a wrap, a new reward for this Season, which will give your weapon or vehicle a new look.

You can also unlock three different skins from Season 7 at the five, ten and fifteen challenge points, with the battle pass unlock kicking in at thirteen.

The Battle Pass giveaway comes off the back of Fortnite’s v7.40 patch, which includes an overhaul of the statistics system.

The giveaway is an unexpected move for Epic, but not entirely surprising given the release of Apex Legends this week.

Apex Legends is a free-to-play battle royale from Respawn, which has smashed records in the ten days since its release. With several top Twitch streamers putting down Fortnite and picking up Apex, it’s no wonder Epic are trying to tempt back players.

The battle pass usually costs around the $10 mark to buy and offers access to skins and other cosmetics, all of which are yours to keep, even after the Season ends. This is the first time players have been offered a chance to pick one up for free.

Epic is sure to be hoping to encourage gamers to come back to Fortnite and get hooked back in before the launch of Season 8, which is expected to take place at the end of the month.

The overtime challenges are available now and the free battle pass offer is running until February 27. Season 8 of Fortnite is currently expected to begin on February 28.
