Fortnite Season 8 has finally arrived and it has brought with it a lot of changes and a bunch of new additions, so let's get started.

The build to Season 8 of Fortnite has been one of the most anticipated since the game's inception. With the launch and instant popularity of Apex Legends during Season 7, Epic really needed to up its game to bring some of those wandering eyes and thumbs back to the Battle Royale game that truly launched the genre into the stratosphere.

Now that Season 8 has finally arrived, we can glide down onto the map ourselves and see exactly what has changed. For starters, the top right-hand corner of the island has been drastically altered. As expected, a massive volcano has risen up out of the floor and laid waste to Wailing Woods and The Block. We also have two brand new named locations to explore: Lazy Lagoon and Sunny Steps.

Other than a volcano, the other theme hinted at was pirates. As you can see in the trailer that will greet you when you play Season 8 for the first time below, pirates have indeed arrived on Fortnite Island. A buccaneer hops off of his boat and is flanked by two Fishsticks. After finding the treasure that they are looking for, they are also confronted by the Ice King and the Prisoner who flies out of the volcano.

Clearly, Season 8's storyline will focus on these three groups doing battle over what is currently an unknown treasure. However, what about us players? Well, for starters, the pirate seems to have brought a few cannons along with him. The new weapon seems to work in the same way as a turret and you can apparently fire players out of them as well as cannonballs. Sadly, the Stormwing planes have indeed been vaulted, as have shopping carts, ATKs, chiller grenades, and sneaky snowmen.

Before we go, here are a few details about the elephant in the room, or rather, the volcano on the island. Fortnite's newest landmark spits out a fair bit of lava. Be careful, though, because not only will it do you damage should you touch it, but it will also throw you backward. On the bright side, the vents will fire you into the air in a good way. Just remember: vents are good, lava is bad.
