Looking to add to your Fortnite emote collection? You’re in luck! Announced yesterday, Epic Games is offering a free Fortnite emote for every player who enables Two-Factor Authentication on their account.

Players will receive the Boogiedown emote in Fortnite’s Battle Royale mode for simply - and wisely - activating Two-Factor Authentication.

Two-Factor Authentication is a method used for protecting players’ accounts from unauthorized access by utilizing an extra code that needs to be entered at login, in addition to their normal username and password. With so much recent focus on privacy and account security, it just makes sense that Epic would put Two-Factor Authentication into place for the current most-popular video game.

Other gaming studios have previously implemented Two-Factor Authentication for their online games. Of note, Blizzard Entertainment has seen resounding success through the use of their Two-Factor Authentication app, creating additional protection for players logging in to play World of Warcraft, Overwatch, and Hearthstone.

In addition to the mobile app and physical version of the Blizzard Authenticator, the studio released Blizzard SMS Protect as yet another way to protect player accounts; such as allowing players to unlock their Blizzard accounts, remove a lost authenticator, recover account names, and receiving a text message if their account is locked by a suspicious login attempt. Enabling Blizzard SMS Protect also rewarded World of Warcraft players with four extra backpack slots, usable account-wide for each character.

Most gamers would agree that it is all about the loot. In-game cosmetics and features are what keep us grinding, and Fortnite is certainly no exception. Epic’s reward-based strategy to increase player security is one that most players will jump on board with, signing up just to get the free emote. But ultimately, Fortnite players (and the parents of younger Fortnite players) should appreciate the additional security step to help keep their accounts safe.

Follow the steps below to opt into Fortnite’s Two-Factor Authentication:

First, in your ACCOUNT Settings, click on the PASSWORD & SECURITY tab to view your security settings.

Then, at the bottom of the page, under the TWO-FACTOR AUTHENTICATION heading, click to ENABLE AUTHENTICATOR APP or ENABLE EMAIL AUTHENTICATION as your two-factor method.

If you prefer to use an authenticator app for two-step verification, here are a few common authenticator apps that can be found in your mobile device app store:

Google Authenticator

LastPass Authenticator

Microsoft Authenticator
