Forza Horizon 5 has been recognized for its innovations in accessibility at The Game Awards tonight. It won the award for its numerous accessibity features, particularly its implementation of American and British Sign Language, a first in a triple-A release.

Sign language will be an option in all of the game's cutscenes, offering an alternative to subtitles for deaf and hard-of-hearing players.

Forza Horizon 5 was praised by players across the board when sign language implementation was announced, raising the bar in accessibility features. Given the strides made in making games playable for all we've seen in recent years, it's hoped that this will normalize sign language use in gaming, as well as television.

While they didn't win the award, there were many other titles to praise for their innovative features. Far Cry 6 was nominated for its closed captions, text-to-speech, and colourblind mode. On the other hand, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart was praised for its extensive customizable options, including a ton of ways to change the visuals.

This is the second year that innovation in accessibly has been a category at The Game Awards. 2020's winner was The Last of Us Part 2, which is largely considered to have set a new standard in what is expected from video game accessibility.

Forza Horizon 5 launched November 5, and is available for Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One and PC. It's also live on Xbox Game Pass.
