The pandemic and the various inequalities that it’s exposed has resulted in an unprecedented number of strikes for the modern era. And it seems that those strike headlines have even given gamers ideas when it comes to getting their way.
Foxhole’s logistics players have decided to go on strike to demand changes with the MMO’s logistical systems. A group calling themselves L.O.G.I. (Logistics Organization for General Improvement) voted to go on strike last month, resulting in 1,800 players refusing to perform important logistics duties.
Unlike most war games where the emphasis is on shooting enemies, Foxhole takes a more holistic approach to warfare. Combat still happens on the front lines between two fictional nations inspired by World War 2, but behind the front lines are bases, warehouses, factories, and mines where resources are gathered and turned into arms and ammo. Logistics plays an immensely important role in determining the winner of each war (which can last weeks at a time), where the side that produces more tanks, rifles, and bullets often comes out the victor.
Logistics requires an enormous amount of cooperation and coordination between teammates, so when an entire segment of the game's population just up and decides to quit, it brings the whole war to a halt. Foxhole has a peak player count of roughly 2,500 as of the time of this writing according to Steamcharts, so 1,800 players walking off the job is huge.
L.O.G.I. has made a list of demands to Foxhole developer Siege Camp for them to get back to work. Those demands include adjustments to resource refinement times to adding a queue to production buildings. Siege Camp has yet to respond to player demands.
In an interview with NME, L.O.G.I. said that the strike's effects should be felt the strongest right around now. If you're a fan of strategy games and were thinking about giving Foxhole a try, maybe hold off for a bit.
