Free Guy is about an NPC gaining sentience in a video game, starring the ever witty Ryan Reynolds as the main character. If you aren't already sold on the concept of Deadpool going around making fun of videogame tropes, then get a lesson in video gaming because there is plenty of stuff about being an NPC that Free Guy gets free rein over with parodying.

There are thousands of Youtube videos based on the oddball-ness of video games, so it's nice to get recognition from Hollywood.  There's plenty of cringe and over the top things players do in a video game and oddball glitches a game goes through that Free Guy can call out. So here are 10 video game tropes that we can't wait for Free Guy to parody.

10 Linear Story Maps

This could be as simple as a quote as, "No we can only go that way, that's the only way the world barriers will allow us!" or "This is a fake door, why are there so many fake doors! Oh, that one is a real door..." A good quote would be "Just keep following the linear path until we find something important."

While looking at bad guys or grunts, if the characters are lost they can say "come on, there's a trail of bad guys over there!". Everyone can relate to getting lost in a game but finding their way back with all the conveniently placed bad guys that the developers place to obstruct progress when going down the right way.

9 NPCs Hitting Walls

We've all seen it, badly programmed NPCs that have no set path. They run into walls wherever they go even when you're talking to them creating hilarious and uncanny moments. You can be talking to an NPC, then because their tracking path wasn't turned off when talking to you, they'll run into the wall, turn back around at you or they're neck will work like an owl's. Then they'll walk out the door and decide to talk to you from the other side of a wall. Free Guy can easily turn that into a skit where Ryan, now freed, tries to talk to his old friends, but one keeps walking into the wall while telling him important things.

8 The Great Beyond

One thing we all know from glitching out games is glitching your character past the map and ending up in the endless void where the character falls for eternity as we watch the bottom of the map get further and further away. This would be a hilarious addition to Free Guy's lore where possibly Ryan has to sacrifice himself in order to save one of his friends from falling in the void. He could then end back up and safe due to a glitch that shoots him back onto the world, that he brags about.

7 Complete Destruction That NPCs Don't Mind

GTA5 is a great example where you can cause endless destruction as the player and NPCs walk around as though it never happened. A car could be blowing up next to them, shooting them across the map, then they'll get right back up and walk around like their memory just got wiped or like it's an average part of their day. In Free Guy, it looks like it is an average part of an NPC's day, where they do not mind it at all or just explosions or players randomly gunning down people are an inconvenience to their day rather than something major.

6 Fetch Quests

One of the most infamous, and sometimes most complained about, aspects of games are fetch quests and how monotonous they can be to complete. This is especially true if most missions in a game come down to them being overblown fetch quests about a MacGuffin. This can be shown perfectly how it feels to go through on in the movie by the main character's grandma perhaps. She keeps sending Ryan out to get random things from the store and making them sound overly mystical. She could even call him on the phone when he's in mortal danger to have him go fetch items for her.

5 Glitchy NPC Partners

One of the best and possibly most game destroying moments is when your partners are glitched to all heck. Much like with Skyrim, with partners blocking your way and getting players stuck because the NPC partners are too blockheaded to move. This can easily be a plot element if Ryan is trying to save his NPC friends who do everything in their power to make it hard on him as he gains more conscience awareness of how messed up his world is.

4 Facial Glitches

It would be more like a jumpscare gag, as not everyone knows the inside of a 3D character model is just two bulging psycho eyes and a toothy mouth floating in the air. But it would be a funny gaga for a newer glitch trend in gaming, especially meaning the Assassin's Creed glitch. Maybe even some of the more freakier glitches like with WWE 2K20. Whatever way they go it will be a hilarious horror to watch and experience as it's a good commentary on the current gaming industry.

3 Convenience Mechanics

Things in real life are complicated and long, in a video game, no one wants that. So in turn, we are given convenience mechanics to get around daily life, like sleep, smoking, eating. One of the funniest ways it's shown would be through Breath Of the Wild, where you have Link gulping down whatever food he scrounged up to help heal him.

You get to see him double hand gulp down whatever food you have him eat. Another great example from Breath of the Wild is the cooking mechanic where the food dances around in the pot, then it cuts to a black screen where the food is just ready afterward.

2 Respawning

This could be seen as a convenience mechanic, but it's more like time traveling in the game world. Free Guy could have this take, or that it's just a clone of the main character after he dies, or it's like an automatic thing where the person just appears out of nowhere but they have to go through a loading screen. Imagine Ryan Reynold's commentary while going through that and essentially learning he's immortal. There are many great directions to take this concept that Free Guy can parody.

1 Cringe Player Names

Some of the supporting characters can be players who are playing a multiplayer game where their usernames could be something like Buttjuize and Xx_Dorkklord_xxx420 and have Ryan talk those out trying to hold a straight face.  With the number of cringe usernames out there it would be surprising if this was something overlooked by Free Guy.  All anyone can hope for is that Free Guy has as much as nerdy logic as everyone's imaginations walking into that movie theater.
