Earlier today, FromSoftware announced that Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon will be releasing this August, much to the surprise of quite a large majority of fans. With Elden Ring being a little over a year old, and the recently announced Shadow of the Erdtree DLC currently in development, many were surprised to see the game releasing as soon as it is. However, we may see the developer release more new titles on a regular basis, as that's exactly what it wants to try and do going forward.

Speaking with Eurogamer (thanks GamesRadar), Armored Core 6 producer Yasuhiro Kitao is asked whether the game's release alongside the development of Elden Ring's DLC is a sign that FromSoftware is starting to work on more than one game at any given time. Kitao reveals that the games have been in development simultaneously for the past decade, but that extra effort will go into staggering FromSoftware's releases going forward to reduce the amount of time between them.

"This is a philosophy of ours that really hasn't changed all that much in the past ten years, particularly since Miyazaki has been president of the company," says Kitao. "This is an area we feel we've always strived to achieve: always making something new, always making something original, something that we find interesting and fun as players. So in this sense, really nothing much has changed.

Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree DLC

"We do develop multiple titles simultaneously, we do have several teams working on different projects. We hope to stagger our releases and bring something new and exciting at hopefully not so long intervals going forward."

While we did have to wait three years for Elden Ring after the release of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, it's also true that the developer releasing games in back to back years isn't all that uncommon. For example, one of the studio's most beloved games (Dark Souls 3) released exactly one year after the launch of Bloodborne, so FromSoftware is perfectly capable of producing banger after banger. It has slowed down in recent years for some reason or another, but it now sounds like FromSoftware is returning to its more regular release schedule.

In fact, we could also take Kitao's statement as a confirmation that FromSoftware's next game after Armored Core 6 is already in development. With Elden Ring DLC and an Armored Core revival out of the way, there really is no telling what the developer could be working on next. We'll just have to wait and see, although I do have my fingers crossed for a Bloodborne sequel. A man can dream.
