Believe it or not, DreamWorks animated films have actually been around for quite some time. If you think the company’s legacy started with Shrek, you’re wrong. Also, if you just chose to forget about classic films like Chicken Run, Prince of Egypt, and The Road to El Dorado, then you’re rather uncultured in the animated film industry. And yes, these three films may not visually appear to look like DreamWorks films, but they are.

Since Shrek’s inception, DreamWorks has really been known for its computer animation and sometimes raunchy humor that rides that fine line between PG and PG-13 content. Have you seen Shark Tale? Or Bee Movie? There’s a lot of grown-up humor in those films alone.

But today, we’re going to discuss the greatness of DreamWorks memes. If you’re not as familiar with the company’s animated films, you might want to grab a bucket of popcorn and go complete a full DreamWorks movie marathon. You could skip over Boss Baby if you really want to. Nobody would notice.

What I’m trying to say is that these memes you are about to see are glorious, humorous, and everything in-between. And the more you’re familiar with the DreamWorks films, the more benefits you’ll get out of this content. These are all top quality memes that I really tried to vary, especially since there are far too many memes out there related to Shrek and Boss Baby.

So without further ado, here are some hilarious DreamWorks memes that only hardcore, appreciative fans will understand.

23 I Do Not Understand

via Know Your Meme

So while I’m discussing these films, I’ll also do my best to give a brief overview of each movie’s plot if you haven’t watched what’s being discussed or you just don’t care about the story about goofy children’s films. Which, if that were the case, why are you reading this? A lot of cheesy kid’s flicks have very good stories.

Kung Fu Panda is, like Shrek, a money-making franchise for DreamWorks. It focuses on a panda named Po, a panda who adores food but also loves kung fu. At first, Master Shifu unwillingly takes Po on as an apprentice, but later views him as a close pupil and talented student.

Here, somebody paused a Kung Fu Panda special at an opportune moment, making it appear as if Master Shifu is floating away from a very confused and exasperated Po. And I don’t think I’m wrong in saying that the caption is very fitting for the picture. Pick a subject if math isn’t difficult for you to comprehend and I’d say that this is an accurate representation of how all students feel.

Sometimes, teachers just don’t get when a student is struggling. Aren’t our exasperated looks enough for you, sensei? I guess not if you’re just floating away from us.

22 More Will Smith?

via DeviantArt (TRC Tooniversity)

This meme is a popular one because it’s always used to characterize someone’s foolish idea. In other words, depending on what the meme creator thinks is stupid, that’s what is used for the gentleman on the right who seems to think he has good ideas. Here, we have a corporate meeting with DreamWorks officials as to what movie they should create next.

Of course, none of the ideas are original as Hollywood has basically run out of original content by this point. Sequels, prequels, and spin-offs are what is in for the next few years. But I’ll admit. I have yet to see Rise of the Guardians. I know! I’ve had plenty of time to watch it and I just haven’t.

But at the same time, I feel like I may be one of the few people who actually enjoyed Shark Tale. It was just one of those weird and quirky films that had a decent story to go along with it. Plus, Will Smith was a fish. However, considering the first film’s ending, I don’t really see how a Shark Tale 2 could be possible unless it was focused on Lenny the shark or some other random character.

21 I Like To Move It

via Me.me

I honestly would have to say that this meme is pretty accurate. If you think you have the faintest idea as to who owns Africa or who rules over various countries within and outside of the continent, you’re wrong. If your answer is not King Julian from Madagascar, then you’re wrong. After all, King Julian is a fabulous ruler who likes to move it. Why wouldn’t you want this lemur as your ruler?

Honestly, out of all the DreamWorks films, King Julian is one of my favorite characters because he’s so hilarious and he even has an interestingly humorous dark side. And DreamWorks knows that he’s a very popular character. Why? Because they managed to feature him in every single film and spin-off even though he’s the ruler of a lemur kingdom.

Now one would think that he’d stay with his loyal subjects, but I guess the adventurous life with the New York Giants calls out to him more.

Personally, I’d like to see King Julian get his own spin-off film. Maybe some backstory would be revealed on how a weirdo like him ended up with the crown. After all, Maurice seems far more suited for the role. How is Julian where he is today? How does he own Africa?

20 Would You Rather…?

via Memes and Gifs

Yes. This is where the true quality begins. Sorry, but if you thought I wouldn’t discuss Bee Movie, you were very wrong. Bee Movie is definitely a giant meme in itself. To this day, I still think people can buy T-shirts with the film’s script on it. People still frequently make videos with clips from the film.

So the question is, which would you rather buy? Would you purchase a very useful iPhone X for $999? It’s a gorgeous phone with a whole lot of abilities. Or, would you rather buy 203 copies of Bee Movie on DVD for $6 less than what you would buy a new iPhone for? Think of how many people you could enlighten with the words of Jerry Seinfeld… as a bee.

Or you could also keep the DVD copies for yourself, purchase 203 televisions and have a mass Bee Movie party. But that sounds like a lot of effort and money unless you recruit a lot of people to partake in this venture. I’m thinking this over way too much. If it were me, I’d go with a new phone just because I’m not as obsessed with memes like the rest of the world is. That’s mostly true.

19 Run From Crisis

via Pinterest

Surprisingly, I actually have watched Megamind. However, it’s been a very long time since I’ve watched any of it, so I’m trying to remember basic plot points off the top of my head. Megamind is a supervillain who ends up destroying the superhero of his city. Realizing he has nothing left to fight against, Megamind decides to create a new superhero to battle against.

However, these plans go awry, forcing Megamind to help save the city and all that good stuff. Personally, I think the reason why we don’t hear a lot about this film is because it wasn’t nearly as financially successful as other DreamWorks films like Shrek or Madagascar. Sure, it’s a cute movie, but it’s definitely not one of DreamWorks’ standout films, even if it does have Brad Pitt in it for like ten minutes.

I’d say this meme is pretty accurate for anyone who’s made a giant mistake only to realize that not fixing their problems can come back and bite them later on. This is a prime example of that and goes to show that you should always be wary of the decisions you make. I have no idea why this suddenly turned into a lesson of morality, but it did.

18 Chicken… Run!

via Know Your Meme

Okay, but Chicken Run is nearly 20 years old, and that makes me feel old since I can still clearly remember watching this as a kid. Chicken Run is a film that was co-financed by DreamWorks, with the stop-motion animation being produced by Aardman Animations. It makes me wish that stop-motion animation was more used, as it’s so painstakingly beautiful.

But as the meme says, this film is rather dark.

It focuses on a farmer and her husband who keep chickens locked away just to harvest their eggs. To further their business venture, the farmer, Mrs. Tweedy, decides to invest in a pie maker that would automatically turn chickens into pies.

Sure, the movie is a cute little adventure about rebellious chickens wanting to leave the nest… literally, to go out and see the world for themselves. And of course, they’d rather perish of old age rather than in the place they are, which is a fair reason to want to flee the coop. But Chicken Run really is a dark film.

Sheesh, a chicken is even ended within the first ten minutes of the film. How does one explain that to a kid? Sure, they might eat meat on a daily basis, but do we have to elaborate on how it came to be as it is?

17 The Thing About Romance

via DeviantArt (ShyViolet911)

So I’m going to approach this the best way I can. DreamWorks is known for their interesting romances they set up. The two most famous relationships like this would definitely be Donkey x Dragon and Melman x Gloria. Yes, in one way, all of these relationships are weird to think about, especially when you consider what children they would produce.

And for Donkey and Dragon, we actually get to see what their spawn would look like. Sure, they might look adorable, but riddle me this. Are they going to be as big as their mother or as small as their father? Which is the dominant trait here? Anyway, it might be weird to think about these relationships that wouldn’t even happen in the wild.

But did you ever consider the message DreamWorks could be sending to viewers? One that very well could have been sent since the first Shrek movie came out? Love has no boundaries. It doesn’t matter what your gender or preference is. Love is love. Now, certain things and actual crimes are one thing. Yet, honestly, I think this meme is a good example of a common theme within DreamWorks films. Don’t be afraid to fall in love with who you want.

16 Disney X DreamWorks Crossover When?!

via: sizzle.com

If you’re familiar with Disney films, then you probably know about one of its “pride and joy” films that it refuses to let go of. Literally. Just like the song Elsa sings. Frozen’s strong and powerful character, Queen Elsa of Arendelle, is hardcore shipped with Jack Frost from DreamWorks’ Rise of the Guardians.

And if this is news to you, then you’re probably not on the Internet enough. Good for you. But here’s another concept for you. What if Prince Hans of the Southern Isles took a liking to a DreamWorks character? Who better than someone like Prince Charming from Shrek? They’re both fabulous. They’re both set on ruling the kingdom. And they both try to end the hero. They’re made for one another.

The one caption for this meme is absolutely perfect. The ship name being “Harming” accurately fits just based on who the two are as characters. They’re beautiful but they literally are the antagonists of the stories. That, and they try to win the affections of redheaded princesses with rebellious attitudes. Even better! Give me a film where Fiona and Anna team up against the two and I’m there opening night. Elsa being in that mix would be great too.

15 Sora Is In The Wrong Swamp

via Memedroid

Let’s be real. Kingdom Hearts is an incredible series because it takes Disney films and mashes them together into one beautiful story. The main protagonist, Sora, is a young boy who ventures through these Disney worlds, meets familiar characters, and fights monsters. Of course, with this concept having been around for more than 15 years, a lot of fans wonder what it would be like if Sora could travel to other worlds not focused on Disney.

Shrek is far from a kid-friendly DreamWorks film. Its humor is more grown-up than anything, yet it’s a movie beloved by both children and grown-ups alike. Regardless, let’s take a second to consider what it would be like for Sora to magically get transported to Shrek’s swamp.

Can you imagine how it would go?

First off, I’m sure there’d be plenty of grown-up jokes regarding Sora’s Keyblade and how he enjoys “unlocking” things or “beating things up with it.” And yet, I really think Shrek as an assist character would be so cool. And a rescuing Princess Fiona mission? Sign me up. Sure, imagining it is wondrous, but it’s never going to happen. Guess we should be grateful that fanfiction exists, right?

14 Mighty And Powerful

via funnyjunk.com

Like many kids from the 90s, I loved The Road to El Dorado, and I still do. And a lot of people don’t know that it’s a DreamWorks film. Tulio and Miguel are two men from Spain that are best friends, but also somewhat reckless criminals. After escaping arrest, the two accidentally stumble upon El Dorado, the mystical city of gold.

The residents in the city believe Tulio and Miguel to be gods, and so, the pair lies, stating that they are gods. Now, this meme has been around for a while, but it’s funny just how much Tulio and Miguel resemble Thor and Loki from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But unlike them, Tulio and Miguel don’t want to end each other. And they’re also not brothers.

If I’m being honest, I’d love to see a live-action film of The Road to El Dorado. However, the casting would have to be perfect. Personally, I don’t know who I could see in the roles. And yet, picturing Tom Hiddleston and Chris Hemsworth as the pair makes me laugh. So sure, why not? Let’s see Thor and Loki as Miguel and Tulio. That’s a movie that I know a lot of nerds would be all for.

13 I’m A What?!

via Pinterest

I’ll go ahead and say for all of us that even if you’re not too familiar with Harry Potter, you probably know all about the famous “You’re a Wizard, Harry” video. The meme-like video basically repeats itself over and over again as Harry cannot comprehend the idea that he’s a wizard.

This meme is a direct spoof of that, but instead, it’s regarding The Prince of Egypt. God reaches out to Moses in the form of a flaming tree or bush and informs Moses that he’s actually a Hebrew who was raised Egyptian.

And of course, he has a hard time believing this and does not even want to take on freeing the Hebrews all by himself.

So this meme parodies that because Moses is very hesitant about taking on this new path, making God pretty frustrated. But even though Moses was very hesitant about it at first, we all know that he takes on the role, saves his people, and all that good stuff.

Honestly, I was really happy to see that The Prince of Egypt memes actually do exist. Thankfully, I didn’t notice any questionable or crazy ones. And yet, I wonder if I did enough digging? I’m sure they exist somewhere…

Besides Miguel, Tulio, and Chel, The Road to El Dorado has some very interesting characters. There’s Altivo, a horse who loves apples and has his own attitude. And there’s Chief Tannabok, the ruler of El Dorado. He has a very warm heart and you can tell he truly cares about his people. But with every animated film, there’s always a villain.

Tzekel-Kan is almost like every other stereotypical villain in that he just wants to cause mischief or wants to take over the kingdom. He also uses dark magical powers to get his way. He also has a really big nose, which you can see here. What a perfect time for somebody to pause their movie.

In this screenshot, Tzekel-Kan’s nose just looks so big and abnormal. In fact, he really looks like a screeching bird. With how his nose currently looks, it should be next to impossible for him to be able to breathe. As scary as he might be, I just can’t take him seriously. On top of that, he’s just a very dramatic person who likes to take things over the top. This freeze frames too much and shows that he loves to be fabulous all the time and steal the show from the chief.

11 Eyebrow Goals

via Pinterest

Okay, but now that I’m thinking about it, it’s really scary to think about just how perfect Spirit’s eyebrows are. Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron is a breathtaking film about an adventurous stallion who learns about freedom, friendship, romance, and more. The animation is absolutely gorgeous, and yet, one thing that still weirds me out is that horses have eyebrows.

And Spirit’s? As all the cool kids would say, they’re on fleek. Personally, I’ve never really understood the point of maintaining eyebrows so much. What’s the big deal? It’s just prominent hair above your eye. That simple. If you find yourself becoming jealous of Spirit’s eyebrows, well you just might want to get your priorities straightened out.

I mean, look at those eyebrows though. I feel like I can see the Nike symbol there. They do look on point. Either way, he’s a charming horse. Why can’t Spirit exist in real life? That would just be a pretty horse to lay eyes on. But don’t plan on keeping him as a pet. We all know how that would go. Now, if you haven’t seen this film yet, this is the part where I tell you that you’re very behind and that you need to go sit down and watch it. Please.

10 Will Smith Fish

via memedroid.com

We all know there’s a huge debate as to which film is DreamWorks’ worst production. And as humans, we’re allowed to have these ideas called opinions, whether you like to hear that or not. Some don’t like Monsters vs. Aliens. A lot of people don’t know what Megamind is. And do we even talk about that Turbo movie? Answer: we don’t.

I would definitely say that Bee Movie and Shark Tale are the lowest ranked on the list since the concepts behind them are kind of weird. But this meme does make a fair point. At least in Shark Tale, Oscar falls in love with Angie. They’re both fish.

Now let’s rewind. Yes. I was just talking about interspecies relationships. That’s one thing. But shipping a bee with a human is where things start to get a little strange. We were talking about weird activities.

Personally, I love Shark Tale. It’s a cute film, and it’s just really different in comparison to a lot of the films DreamWorks has released. Will Smith fish still kills me with its accuracy, because it really is Will Smith’s face on an animated fish.

9 How Bow Dah

via Me.me

Let me be real here. I think Danielle Bregoli is spoiled and extremely annoying. That’s me putting it nicely and I know that I’m not the only one who feels that way about her. She became famous all because of her rude and childish behavior. And of course, she’s a huge meme. How ‘bow dah?

So I’m sure you can understand the giggle I had when I saw this picture comparing Bregoli to Lenny the shark from Shark Tale. First off, I agree with the meme. Don’t disrespect Lenny like this. He did absolutely nothing wrong to deserve this cruel and unusual punishment. And yet look at Lenny’s face. Now, look at Danielle.

The resemblance is spot-on.

Can you imagine if Lenny talked to his father the way Danielle talked to her mother? That would definitely make for an even weirder film. Maybe for some of you, that characteristic would improve the movie for you. But you know what? I’d rather not give her the ability to earn more money by practically doing nothing except being whiny and attentive. She’s underage. This is not how young people should be acting. If Lenny the shark knows better, so should she.

8 Shark Tale: The Mystery

via me.me

I swear this isn’t a story primarily focused on Shark Tale memes. I also didn’t want this to become a Shrek meme fest, either. Because believe me. I’m sure you’ve probably seen every Shrek meme in existence. On the other hand, Shark Tale memes are a delicacy meant to be savored.

This meme discusses the idea of how, somehow, Shark Tale was still a success despite it being a “knock-off” of Finding Nemo. I get why people say that, considering both films came out around the same time. But they are both vastly different. Finding Nemo is way more family friendly, whereas Shark Tale involves gambling, grown-up drama, and The Godfather. No, I’m not kidding.

And yes, I’ve always found it interesting how the animators were able to basically put the voice actors’ faces onto their work. Oscar is literally Will Smith. And Jack Black was meant for the role of Lenny. There’s a lot of adult humor throughout, but at least it still teaches kids that “Hey, don’t be afraid to be your self, even if you just clean whales. There might be somebody out there who likes you for you.” Also, Angelina Jolie as a fish. That is all.

7 All Bs!

via Know Your Meme

Now for some of you, we’re finally getting into the content that you enjoy discussing. Bee Movie is the number one DreamWorks film with the most memes about it. Plenty of people have tried to explain why the movie is so meme-worthy, but it basically all boils down to this. It’s just such a weird film.

Sure, DreamWorks has made everything under the sun. There’s a film about an ogre, about dragons, about a panda who loves kung fu. So a movie about bees wouldn’t be weird, right? Wrong. First off, Jerry Seinfeld voices a bee. Weird. Second, he falls in love with a human woman.

To top it all off, there’s plenty of bee jokes in here, like the one this meme shows. Bs must be the highest ranking letter grade when it comes to bee society. Because why need As when all that matters is perfect Bs? Bs make the bee, after all. There’s just a lot of bee jokes in the film, which might be funny to the kids, but after a while, the grown-ups watching the film would probably go bonkers. Bee Movie is just so dang weird. I don’t even know what else to say about it.

6 Spuddies!

via Know Your Meme

I am surprised with myself. This is the first time I’ve mentioned Over the Hedge in this piece, and it’s one of my favorite DreamWorks movies. Over the Hedge is about a group of woodland animals who wake up from hibernation and realize that their forest has been invaded by a housing addition.

A wild raccoon teaches a turtle and crew about how to obtain delicious food like hamburgers, pizza, and Spuddies, from the humans by raiding garbage cans and robbing their homes. This is basically the plot of the whole film, with the antagonists being a snobby woman, exterminator, and a bear. Yep.

This meme cracks me up because it compares RJ the raccoon holding a can of Spuddies to that of an emotional soldier reuniting with his wife. I’d honestly say this is a very accurate representation. RJ loves Spuddies, even though his nemesis, the big, mean, nasty bear loves them as well. Believe it or not, these potato chips play a big role in the film. That, and cookies. Where would be without the ridiculously hyped up squirrel named Hammy who adores cookies? Honestly, if you haven’t watched this, you really need to just for Hammy the hyper squirrel.

5 Face Swap

via Pinterest

I’m not really sure if this counts as a meme, but I wanted to share it regardless. Just imagining Shrek and Donkey with their faces swapped is one thing. Seeing it in person is another. It’s honestly kind of scary just how amazing Donkey’s face looks on Shrek’s body. It just fits. Although, I don’t think Princess Fiona would end up marrying Shrek if he had Donkey’s personality. Because we all know that Donkey can be a lot to handle at times.

Meanwhile, Shrek’s face on Donkey’s body just looks so confused and puzzled. Play a dark song in the background and zoom in on that face. Believe me. That’s a good way to get a laugh.

Also, I never realized just how big and bushy Donkey’s eyebrows are until I saw them on Shrek’s head.

What is up with animals like horses and donkeys having the coolest or weirdest of eyebrows? Heck, I’m surprised animators spend so much time on eyebrows. That’s probably because eyebrows really help a character’s expressions. I guess I’m one of those weird people who thinks it’s weird that some animals have eyebrows. On some animals, it even looks extremely unnatural, so that’s probably why it weirds me out so much.

4 Far Far Away Idol

via Pinterest

I remember this so well. But if you’re completely unaware that this even existed, let me do some informing for you. In the Shrek 2 DVD bonus features, there was content focused on Far Far Away Idol. At the time of the film’s release, American Idol was insanely popular and Simon Cowell was still a judge on the show.

So DreamWorks decided to have some of its many characters in the Shrek series perform for the audience. And after the end of everyone’s performances, audience members could vote for their favorite. Now, if you voted for a far-from-ideal singer like the Three Blind Mice or Captain Hook, Simon Cowell would say something along the lines of how the choice was poor and then say the winner was him.

This then leads him to sing like Frank Sinatra. I’m not even kidding you. This is a thing. Dearest meme creator, it is not a crazy dream you had. This is indeed real. It might surprise you even more that there’s even a soundtrack with all of these characters singing the song’s full versions. But none of them are actually bad in that version. I still remember listening to that CD all the time.
