The 2019 League of Legends World Championship has found its victor. Chinese-Korean squad FunPlus Phoenix faced off against LEC juggernaut G2 Esports in the best-of-five Grand Final in Paris, France. The two earned their Grand Final spots after defeating Invictus Gaming and SK Telecom T1, respectively, in the semi-finals. LPL champions FunPlus Phoenix proved their strength with a 3-0 victory over the European side.

Game one kicked off with two early kills going in the favor of FunPlus Phoenix before G2’s AD carry Luka "PerkZ" Perković could trade one back. FPX held a small gold lead as both teams took equal turrets, the Chinese-Korean side taking down their second dragon as G2 took the Rift Herald. The gold swayed in G2’s direction as they took their first dragon. The first massive team fight of the game saw FunPlus Phoenix come out on top as jungler Gao "Tian" Tian-Liang secured a double kill. FPX took down the first Baron, AD carry Lin "Lwx" Wei-Xiang taking a double kill of his own shortly after. The gold swelled for FPX as they took the second Baron and pushed towards the base, Lwx taking another double kill as they closed out game one in 40 minutes.

Game two saw G2 jungler Marcin "Jankos" Jankowski’s one kill overshadowed by three from Lwx and support Liu "Crisp" Qing-Song. The game slowed, G2 taking two dragons as FPX destroyed their first turret. FunPlus Phoenix took quick control of the Rift, standing at eight kills to one as they claimed the Baron. FPX used that momentum to push forward, wiping out G2 as mid laner Rasmus "Caps" Winther managed only one answering kill. Mid laner Kim "Doinb" Tae-sang put up four kills as FPX circled the Nexus, putting themselves on match point in 25 minutes.

FunPlus Phoenix raced forward in game three, taking down two dragons and two turrets before first blood was spilled. Jankos secured the first kill of the game, just barely making it out untraded. Doinb took FPX’s first kill as G2 slayed their first dragon. The kills evened up, though the gold favored FunPlus Phoenix. The LPL champions looked ready to lift the Summoner's Cup as they took the Baron, followed quickly by three more kills. PerkZ and top laner Martin "Wunder" Hansen were left to fend off the push as FPX took the second Baron. G2’s base fell around them as FunPlus Phoenix took down the Nexus, claiming the World Championship title after 30 minutes.

This is the first World Championship title for all FunPlus Phoenix players. The regular League of Legends season will return in 2020.
