CEO of G2 Esports Carlos Rodriguez is stepping down from the company following his controversial friendship with self-confessed misogynist, Andrew Tate. Rodriguez was criticized for seemingly inviting Tate to a G2 event, and for defending his affiliation with the infamous influencer. Rodriguez confirmed his resignation on Twitter, just before G2 put out its own statement. In a three-minute video, Rodriguez says he takes "full responsibility" for the Tate incident, while also commenting that he feels "fucking destroyed" by the situation. G2 has also disavowed Tate's misogyny, and has pledged to "support a diverse gaming community".Related: The Games Industry Is Truly Repellent"My time in G2 has come to an end, which means that I will be stepping down from my CEO position", says Rodriguez, speaking in a video shared on Twitter. "I know it may be a shocker for many of you, and trust me, this has been a very hard ending to what has been otherwise a deeply meaningful and joyful experience.

"I take full responsibility for everything that went on in the last few days. And trust me when I say that I just feel fucking destroyed about it. I hope you guys remember me for the good things. I hope that is my legacy."

Neither Rodriguez nor G2 mentioned Tate by name, but it was his invite to a G2 event that triggered the initial controversy. Rodriguez's reaction to criticism also came under fire, with the now-former CEO writing at the time: "Nobody will ever be able to police my friendships. I draw my line here. I party with whoever the fuck I want."

In its own statement on the matter, G2 said that after a "tough week", it has "accepted" the news that Rodriguez will step down. The company also said that it wants to "underline" that it "does not support any form of misogyny."

Andrew Tate rose to prominence online this year. He is perhaps best known for running Hustler's University - a Discord server that purports to dish out financial advice, and costs $49.99 a month to join. However, his misogynistic views have seen him banned from most social media sites. He has also been connected to an investigation into human trafficking after police raided his home in Romania. Tate denies any wrongdoing.
