Side-scrolling shoot ‘em up Azur Lane is receiving a crossover with Dead or Alive volleyball spin-off Dead or Alive Xtreme: Venus Vacation. Publisher Yostar followed the announcement by revealing the collaboration's characters in the form of “shipgirls”.

With shipgirl Misaki revealed during the weekend, Yostar continued to unveil a further five characters entering the crossover. Nyotengu, Marie Rose, Honoka, Monica, and Nagisa have also joined the line-up and received new artwork as they left the sun-kissed beaches of Dead or Alive Xtreme for some World War II action. The upcoming crossover also debuted an anime-styled trailer featuring the all-female cast in their glory. The collaboration will appear in the free-to-play Azur Lane on November 26.

Azur Lane presents itself a side-scrolling shooter, RPG hybrid, available on iOS and Android. Created by Chinese developers Shanghai Manjuu and Xiamen Yongshi, the mobile game was released in 2017 set in an alternate timeline of World War II. You are in charge of female anthropomorphic characters designed from warships, transformed into shipgirls.

In addition to its battleship combat, you can also indulge in customizing your own house, and even dictate which in-game character marries another. Azur Lane houses an overwhelming list of characters to portray, and the game will now welcome a handful of sports stars from Dead or Alive Xtreme: Venus Vacation.

If the classic PS1 and Dreamcast fighting game franchise Dead or Alive comes to mind, then you would be right to assume the connection. Born from Team Ninja’s penchant for flaunting its female characters, the Dead or Alive Xtreme spin-off series began with Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball, and has evolved since then. While the game obtained favorable reviews for its sports gameplay, it mostly received attention for its eye-candy. The Xtreme series has since produced a further three installments, and its latest title - Venus Vacation - lends its characters to the Azur Lane crossover.

Azur Lane traveled west for PC owners in the form of Azur Lane: Crossover back in February. Crosswave brought the 2D shooter in the 3D world, offering the same mechanics with enhanced visuals, and an impressive roster of 25+ main characters and 30+ supporting characters to choose from.
