With New World’s economy in shambles, players have taken to gambling away their hard-earned gold for a bit of a thrill. Requests to gamble have begun flooding New World’s chat bars, with players divided on whether this influx of gambling is healthy or even all that fun.

New World doesn't have a gambling mini-game or NPC, but it does have a dice-rolling emote. The rolled number will actually populate in chat, so there's no way of faking your rolls. So long as both parties agree to abide by the results, gambling in New World is as simple as rolling the dice and seeing which number comes out on top.

Reddit user Soracaz said in a recent post that the entire Windsward server has "become a haven for those wanting to try their luck and maybe win a fortune." A specific "casino area" has popped up in town where players simply announce their wagers in the open chat. Once a player accepts, the two roll the dice emotes with the loser trading the winner whatever the wager was.

For higher bets over 1,000 gold, players will often confirm that they have the gold on hand by opening a trade, displaying the gold, and then canceling the trade pending the outcome of the dice roll.

The whole casino relies on the honor system, but those who renege on their bets will find themselves shunned by the entire community. Soracaz has an excel spreadsheet of cheaters who are banned from gambling.

Most players responded positively to Soracaz, with one saying that gambling has become New World's "true endgame." Likely because the actual end-game content is all hopelessly broken.

YouTuber ThatGuyMint has a slightly different take on the gambling rules: one player takes numbers 1-3, while the other takes 4-6. Whichever number comes up takes the wager.

However, not everyone is so excited for New World's new gambling-based economy. One post on the New World forums expresses outrage at all the people spamming the chat with requests to gamble.

"These types of posts are starting to flood the channels and it's getting really annoying," wrote user some_noob. "In-game gambling is a seedy subsection of most game communities that leads to real-world trading, scamming, and just overall negative experience for the average player."

Unless Amazon removes the dice emote or drastically improves New World’s end-game experience, I'd expect gambling to stick around for the forseeable future.
