Venerable interactive entertainment company and video game icon Atari recently announced a partnership with video game incubation platform Game Jolt. The deal will bring Game Jolt's large catalog of indie games to the upcoming Atari VCS PC/console hybrid entertainment system this fall.

Game Jolt is an indie game platform and community launched in 2002 that creates tools for indie video game developers and gamers to share and play their games together under one unified roof. With over 135,000 independently-developed playable games on its platform, and over 128 million active gamers and game creators, Game Jolt is one of the largest worldwide gaming communities dedicated to supporting indie game development.

The partnership will allow the two teams to select the best of the best indie games available from Game Jolt’s huge collection and make them a part of the increasingly massive Atari VCS gaming library. A “Presented by Game Jolt” section will be present on the Atari VCS Store to highlight the games selected from the indie platform.

"We have built Game Jolt to better highlight indie games and bring global opportunities to indie studios. Through our partnership with the Atari VCS platform, we're excited to extend our current reach into the family living room," said Game Jolt CEO Yaprak DeCarmine. "We are excited to be publishing games hand-picked from Game Jolt to the Atari VCS."

Game Jolt has a proven track record of introducing indie games and their developers to a community of gamers to help grow and improve games and their studios. The platform allows them to garner the critical feedback from gamers necessary to help ensure a successful market launch. The Game Jolt platform has helped produce many prominent indie games in this way, including such distinguished games as Bendy and the Ink Machine and FNaF World.

“Atari is committed to bringing the creative work of small studios and independent developers to the Atari VCS platform,” said Michael Arzt, COO of Atari VCS & Connected Devices. “Our partnership with Game Jolt will ensure the creative efforts of the Game Jolt community can find a home and reach an expanded audience on the Atari VCS.”

This partnership comes on the heels of the recent Atari announcement of its partnership with the AirConsole cloud-based gaming platform. The dedicated AirConsole app will allow Atari VCS owners immediate access to their broad library of over 150 original single-player and local multiplayer party games, and allow them to use their iOS and Android mobile devices as VCS gamepads.

The Atari VCS is currently available to pre-order at AtariVCS.com, GameStop.com, and Walmart.com. According to Atari, the base 8GB Atari VCS 800 Onyx will retail for just $299.99 USD. The Atari VCS 800 “All-In” system bundles include the Atari VCS Classic Joystick (available separately for $59.99) and Atari VCS Modern Controller ($59.99) for $399.99 USD.
