Nintendo’s Game & Watch: The Legend of Zelda was sold out within seconds after being released on November 12, 2021. Consumers had only minutes to purchase the console directly from Nintendo before discovering they would have to either wait for more supply or look elsewhere for a unit. So much for this holiday stocking stuffer.

There is no word on when the devices will be back in stock at Nintendo. The console is currently sold out at Amazon and GameStop as of November 13, but some units are available at Best Buy, Target, and Walmart. These are however not expected to last for long.

The Game & Watch: The Legend of Zelda was preceded by the Game & Watch: Super Mario Bros. which came out on November 13, 2020. Similar to the recently released console, this was sold out at Nintendo and most retailers within a matter of minutes. Restocks were few and far between with devices disappearing from store shelves almost instantly.

Scalpers were hard at work selling the Game & Watch: Super Mario Bros. for well above cost last year and the situation is no different this time around. The Game & Watch: The Legend of Zelda is currently being sold on auction for inflated prices at places like eBay.

While the previous console was created to celebrate the anniversary of the Super Mario Bros. franchise, the Game & Watch: The Legend of Zelda is all about Link who just turned 35 this year. The system contains the English and Japanese versions of The Legend of Zelda, Zelda II: The Adventure of Link, and The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening. They came out slightly earlier in Japan, but these were released worldwide in 1987, 1988, and 1993. The device represents a tribute to the consoles featuring a game and watch that were produced by Nintendo from 1980 to 1991.
