Skeptical that the offerings in Apple Arcade will be as great as you want? Unconvinced by Play Pass's lack of details and Stadia's streaming-based gameplay?

Well, there's another option on the horizon in the increasingly-crowded mobile games subscription marketplace: GameClub. This one's being offered on both iOS and Android devices, and it's curated by experts who have spent years looking through the best games that mobile devices had to offer throughout their respective histories.

GameClub, like its competitors, offers ad-free games with zero in-app purchases for a monthly subscription. It promises to give players access to the "Best games ever released on mobile," promising over 100 games on the service.

So far, their YouTube channel has listed 27 classic mobile games that will be a part of the service, with a new game announced every week. At least 50 games are expected when the service launches this fall, with more coming later.

  • Mage Gauntlet
  • Forget-Me-Not
  • Super Crate Box
  • Hook Worlds
  • Space Miner Blast
  • Sleeping Prince
  • Rope Rescue
  • Legendary Wars
  • Tales of the Adventure Company
  • Cubed Rally Racer
  • Space Miner: Space Ore Bust

It's worth noting that these games are not new releases. A good number aren't even available anymore, and had to be updated for modern devices for the service -- if you want to play ragdoll platformer Sleeping Prince or pirate adventure Plunderland, for instance, GameClub will be the only place you can find them.

Expert Curation

If you've been keeping close track of the mobile gaming scene, however, there's a good chance you've already heard of a lot of these games. But most people haven't kept track of the mobile gaming scene, and those who have tend to know more about the big successes than the games that were well-received but underplayed.

Eli Hodapp, ex editor-in-chief of Touch Arcade, has been keeping track of mobile games. He's been writing about them since 2009, and the games chosen for inclusion span nearly the entire existence of the iPhone and Android devices.

The games will undoubtedly be worth playing, but main question is whether a selection of updated classics will be enough to gather an audience when Apple and Google will have competing services with more visibility and newer games.
