Gamers are split on how the GTA Trilogy - Definitive Edition looks compared to the original games, especially considering the old versions have been delisted.

After months of rumours regarding its existence, we finally got our first look at the remastered GTA Trilogy. The trailer shows the world has been updated with new textures, lighting effects, and general graphical improvements coming from the switch to Unreal Engine. The characters all have proper fingers now too, thankfully.

As with most things, this new look has split the internet, with some gamers thinking that it captures the spirit of the originals perfectly whilst updating them, and others mockingly comparing it to Fortnite.

Let's start with a more positive perspective, with a good number of people praising the remaster for retaining the spirit of the original releases whilst putting in new lighting and atmospheric effects. Praise has also been given to how the new graphics match the style of GTA's classic box arts.

On the more negative side, a lot of gamers think that the games remain too blocky and have had high-quality textures slapped over them without updating the geometry. Some people have even taken to comparing Rockstar's remasters to fan-made mods - which is a bit of a touchy subject for the GTA community lately - and saying that they managed to do a better job without charging anything.

Then there's the weird middle ground of people who think that it looks weird, but are kind of into it. A lot of comparisons have been made to action figures, with some claiming that the remaster looks like a toy version of the original games.

This split perspective is made worse by the fact that the Definitive Editions have replaced the original Steam releases of GTA 3, GTA Vice City, and GTA San Andreas. Those games have been delisted to make way for the new re-release, so whether you like the graphics or not, it's pretty much the only option now.
