Gamers have been posting some of the best and worst running animations in games, including Death Stranding, Nier Automata, Mass Effect, and Jedi Fallen Order.

The ResetEra thread was started by user s y, who had come across Jedi Fallen Order's sprinting animation for the first time. They said, "just started the ps5 version of the respawn star wars game and was taken aback by the quality of the sprint animation" and encouraged others to share some of their favourite ones, both good and bad.

One game that is mentioned quite a few times across the thread is Nier: Automata, which has 2B and 9S absolutely bombing it around when you press the sprint button. Similarly, Metal Gear Rising Revengeance is another game discussed in the thread, with a clip of Raiden pelting it up a wall showing us that whoever suggested it might have a point in calling it the best.

If you're looking for some of the more realistic running animations, we've also got mention of titles like Death Stranding, which puts a ton of effort into making Sam move realistically down hills and when climbing, and Final Fantasy 15's fantastically weighted running animations for Noctis. Final Fantasy 15 in particular gets mentioned throughout the thread, which is fair when you see Noctis in action.

Some of the other games mentioned for their quality animations include Assassin's Creed 3, Watch Dogs 2, and Shadow of the Colossus' purposefully weird flailing.

Discussing the best-animated running is easy though - what about the bad ones? The thread also looks through some pretty weird looking runs, including mentioning that Jedi Fallen Order's sprint looks like Cal has had some bathroom problems. What would a mention of silly sprints be without Mass Effect? The thread highlights the pretty goofy running of Commander Shepard in Mass Effect 3 and Ryder's own weird little run from Andromeda at launch.

One game that isn't mentioned much throughout the thread is GTA, which seems like a missed opportunity considering the iconically awful running animations from the PS2 era of GTA games. Not to mention the more recent games, which actually have pretty great movement.

Now, where's the walking-down-stairs animation thread?
