Weapon durability in video games isn't always realistic. For instance, in many titles, you can slice through countless zombies without ever dulling your blade. This isn't a giant problem as games don't have to follow the laws of real-life physics.

Yet, some developers attempt to include an extra bit of realism by not making your weapons indestructible. In these games, your tools slowly start to break down throughout your adventure. It's a divisive feature, as while some like the extra challenge it creates, others find it annoying. Either way, it's a mechanic that has grown more popular over the years. And whether you like it or not, here is a collection of games that include weapon durability.

7 Yakuza Series

Yakuza is an action-adventure series that incorporates some beat 'em up elements. In most of the games, you play as Kiryu, who is one of the most dangerous martial artists in gaming. And he can beat groups of guys up with just his fists and feet.

However, while controlling him, you can also use weapons during combat. Naturally, you can equip swords and bats, but you aren't forced to stick with the traditional tools. You're also free to beat people up with kettles, signs, bicycles, and pretty much anything else you can find. All of these things, however, have limited durability. In fact, the game even tells you how many shots you have left with each weapon.

6 Dead Rising Series

The Dead Rising games are always filled with an unlimited supply of zombies. Thankfully, there are almost as many weapons as there are undead because you can pick up pretty much anything and hit a zombie with it.

But the best tools for taking down the horde are the amazing combo weapons you can build. Each one is a unique contraption, and most allow you to kill in unconventional ways. They are usually powerful but not invincible tools. After all, every weapon in these games breaks eventually, and you don't tend to get much warning before it happens.

5 WWE 2K22

When you think of breakable weapons, you don't usually consider a wrestling game. Yet, in most titles of this ilk, you have the ability to throw someone through a table, destroying it completely. Plus, in 2K22, you can also break several other weapons, including steel chairs and kendo sticks.

The process of shattering them is simple, as all you have to do is smash them over your opponent constantly. The weapons will become visibly haggard before finally falling to pieces. And once you've done that, you might not need to perform a fancy finishing move to get the win, as your opponent should be beaten up enough already.

4 Far Cry 2

The Far Cry series has changed a lot over the years. The recent games include a lot more outrageousness and lack the realism of the first few titles. An example of that realism is that guns in Far Cry 2 actually degrade over time due to your character never cleaning them.

So, the longer you have a firearm, the more ineffective and unreliable it becomes. This can be really annoying as you can be in the middle of a firefight when your gun suddenly jams on you. However, that's not the worst thing that can happen to your firearm. If you continue to use a run-down gun, it can eventually explode in your hands. The 'explosion' doesn't physically hurt you, but your favorite weapon coming apart isn't exactly what you want to see.

3 State Of Decay Series

The permadeath feature in the State Of Decay games means every encounter is a tense one. The last thing you want is to lose characters you've spent a long time building up. Unfortunately, though, it's hard to avoid getting surrounded by the undead multiple times in a single playthrough.

When State Of Decay's most dangerous monsters are closing in on you, you've got to hope that your weapons are in good condition. After all, both melee and ranged weapons can degrade over time if you're not visiting a workbench regularly to keep them in good shape.

2 Minecraft

Over the years, Minecraft players have built some incredible structures in the game, from fancy houses to re-creations of landmarks. However, in survival mode, building and crafting aren't the only thing you must do. You also have to contend with the litany of mobs trying to kill you.

Thankfully, Minecraft Steve is a resourceful character as he has the capability to create several different tools that he can use to fight. The main ones are swords and bows, but things like pickaxes can do some damage too, if necessary. Yet, the tools aren't invincible as they will eventually break if you use them too much. How long they last depend on what materials you used to create them.

1 The Legend of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild

Link Staring Into Horizon Breath of the Wild

Breath Of The Wild is a long and engrossing adventure. During it, you encounter plenty of different enemies who intend to put Link down for good.

Naturally, you must fight them off using your melee weapon, bow, and shield. But your exact arsenal will change a lot throughout the game as each weapon breaks eventually, and the game doesn't allow you to repair them. You just lose the weapon and have to hope that you've got a strong backup. Some of the previous games had this feature also, but it's arguably more annoying in this one.
