Video games should be fun and accessible for everyone, but oftentimes those with colorblindness get the short end of the stick. The three main categories of colors that players can't see include red-green, blue-yellow, and all colors. Many games have started implementing colorblind modes into their games, although many choose to just simulate colorblindness rather than offer a solution that is helpful to no one.

While there are many games the colorblind can play, there is also a slew of them that are not as they are based on seeing color and the developers fail to offer a fix. It can lead to extreme frustration, random guessing, and rage quitting as the colorblind are held back by something they can't control.

10 Dr. Mario World

Dr. Mario World is a game you can play on your phone, but colorblind players often find it is unplayable once you reach a certain level. The blue and purple pills look almost identical, as well as the green and yellow pills.

This makes it difficult to rid the screen of viruses when the pill is put in the wrong place, and it is amazing that this hasn't been fixed yet seeing as players have been complaining about it for years. Of course, this game isn't the only one of the plumber's that fails colorblind players.

9 Cuphead

Cuphead is a fun, sometimes frustrating, and amazingly animated 2D fighting game. But the parry system needs to be adjusted for colorblind players. You are told which objects are parryable by their color and many players struggle with this aspect of the game.

They end up parrying the wrong thing and take damage which is basically a game-ender when you reach the hardest levels in the game. When a key mechanic is taken away from a subset of players, perhaps the game needs some attention.

8 Borderlands 2

Borderlands 2 has a lot of items that are color-coded and while the developers added a colorblind mode after many complaints, it is pretty useless to some colorblind players. Blue and purple loot still look basically the same and green and orange cash drops are indistinguishable.

It can be played with the help of a good friend, but otherwise, it is all a guessing game as to whether or not you are obtaining better loot. However, Borderlands 3 is better about this which is part of the reason why the next installment is placed above the rest.

7 Cyberpunk 2077

If you are red-green colorblind, then you will probably find Cyberpunk 2077 a pretty miserable game to play. All of the menus are red and the colorblind mode they implemented changes white colors to purple in the HUD.

This only makes it more difficult to read and some who desire to play it despite this say that not using the colorblind mode is more beneficial. It is quite a big flop for such a hyped game, but there are plenty more big games coming out in 2021 that players hope don't make the same mistake.

6 Control

Control is a game that relies on the color red and there is no way to change this. Those who have red-green blindness or are totally colorblind are pretty much not able to play. It makes it impossible to see as there is red everywhere on the screen, so you won't be able to uncover the secrets about the Former.

All the colors seem to blur together and it's not worth it to try and struggle through this game when there are so many others out there that they could try such as The Outer Worlds. Developer Obsidian stated early on that, though it lacks a colorblind mode, the game was developed with color-blind gamers specifically in mind.

5 Any Battlefield Game

All of the Battlefield games are pretty miserable when it comes to colorblind modes as these players have issues distinguishing an opponent from the background. One example is when they are hiding in the mud; it is basically a death sentence for any colorblind character.

They could run around and deal with what they can see with the best playable characters, but this is no fun when winning pretty much relies on sight. Given that many of the games in the series take place in muddy or smoky locales, there's not much room to compromise.

4 Call Of Duty: Infinite Warfare

Infinite Warfare

Infinite Warfare is a first-person shooter where color is a necessity in order to tag the right players with your bullets. However, the colorblind mode is complete garbage as it changes the entire color palette. Creating accessible games for colorblind players isn't about total change; it's about working with colorblindness.

This approach makes it impossible to tell what's what in the game. What is also a killer downside is that enemy air support and ground support are indistinguishable from those employed by your teammates. You have to be really paying attention in order to catch the audio cues that are sent over a headset.

3 Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo

Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo

Puzzle games that require matching are generally pretty impossible for the colorblind to play. They rely heavily on bright, loud colors from the complete spectrum. Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo is a prime example of this.

The green and yellow gems look basically identical in this game and the colorblind usually quit pretty quickly. It is disappointing for puzzle game and Street Fighter fans alike. There are some mods floating around that they can try, but the general consensus is that it's not worth the struggle.

2 Dead By Daylight

Cheryl in the Backwater Swamp in Dead by Daylight

The Dead By Daylight developers just recently announced they would be making a colorblind mode after one of them made an insensitive comment about it. However, there is no timeline for when this will be added, so for now, this game is still unplayable as colorblind people can't see the blood trails in the grass.

Players need to follow these in order to find the survivor, so that's a major feature that you really can't go without if you want to play this game. As with Cuphead and Control, it's just impossible to work around.

1 Any Fifa Game

FIFA might seem like a game that the colorblind could play seeing as it is a best-selling EA franchise. But those fancy and colorful jerseys provide their own sets of problems. It can be hard to see who is on what team and even the referees look like players sometimes.

There is also a player highlighter, but the choice to make it red on a green background means that the colorblind will probably have to stay away from this game.
