5 Sonic Adventure 2

sonic adventure 2 cover & gameplay

Shadow the Hedgehog probably has more similarities to Rollerdrome due to its guns, but it's still stuck on its original launch consoles, the PlayStation 2, GameCube, and Xbox. An older title, Sonic Adventure 2, is available on modern platforms and is still one of the best 3D Sonic games, if not the best overall, despite its age.

It also marked the first appearance of Shadow the Hedgehog. Sonic Adventure 2 doesn't have you play as just Sonic either — there are five other characters to play as, including Shadow himself. There's also the beloved Chao Garden, where players can raise adorable Chao.

4 DmC: Devil May Cry

dmc cover & gameplay

DmC: Devil May Cry is Ninja Theory's short-lived 2013 reboot of Capcom's stylish action series. It may be a little different, but it also might be easier for you to get stuck in with, since it's only one game rather than five.

DmC: Devil May Cry sees the protagonist, Dante, a different version from the previously introduced character, hunting demons as usual in a demon-controlled location known as Limbo City. The gameplay is still relatively similar to the other Devil May Cry games, with a large variety of weapons and different ranks depending on how well you perform. DmC also introduced moveset modifiers called Angel and Devil Mode, as well as shifting environments.

3 Bayonetta

bayonetta cover & gameplay

While you could play any Bayonetta game since the gameplay is more important than the nonsensical story, it may be best to start with the first, since it's available on the most platforms, including PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

Bayonetta stars the titular witch who can use her shape-shifting hair as a weapon in addition to various guns. She can also use an ability called witch time, where dodging an enemy attack at the right moment can temporarily slow down time. Similar abilities are seen in many games these days, but Bayonetta may have been the first.

2 Bulletstorm

Bulletstorm is a first-person shooter with several weapons to acquire and use, including more conventional weapons like assault rifles and shotguns, and unconventional fictional weapons such as grenade-launching cannons. Guns aren't the only weapon in your arsenal, however, as you also have some telekinetic powers and physical abilities to make use of and score more points for defeating enemies in creative ways.

1 Vanquish

vanquish cover & gameplay

The third-person action game Vanquish was directed by Shinji Mikami of Resident Evil and God Hand fame, but it is quite a departure from many of the games he had previously worked on. Developed by Platinum Games, Vanquish originally launched for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2010, for PC in 2017, with a remastered version for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One just three years later in 2020.

Set on a future Earth where countries are fighting over dwindling resources, playing as character Sam Gideon, you use an augmented reaction suit that enhances Sam's reflexes and allows him to rapidly evade and slide to avoid incoming gunfire.
