Microsoft has unveiled the lineup of free titles for Xbox Live Gold subscribers next month and it's kind of a mixed bag. For Games with Gold in June 2021, subscribers will receive Injustice: Gods Among Us, Neogeo Battle Coliseum, The King's Bird, and Shadows: Awakening. If you're scratching your head with those names, I don't blame you. The last two, in particular, were indie hits that mostly flew under the radar.

I suppose the biggest game this month would be Injustice, but it's also curious how Microsoft is doling out the Xbox 360 version. Not only does this not include any of the DLC, but it was recently free a few months back in a random giveaway on Xbox Live. It's nice that the Xbox ecosystem has backward compatibility support for this version instead of forcing you to upgrade, but you could also find the Xbox One "Ultimate Edition" port for roughly $10 at this point.

I'm also quite baffled by Neogeo Battle Coliseum being in here. Not to throw shade at SNK, but Battle Coliseum is often regarded as one of the weaker fighters in its roster. It would have been great to see something like Garou: Mark of the Wolves or The King of Fighters 98: Ultimate Match instead. At least the two indie games on Xbox One are worth playing through, so this month isn't a complete wash.

Here's when you'll be able to redeem each title next month:

Xbox One

  • The King's Bird - June 1 - June 30
  • Shadows: Awakening - June 16 - July 15

Xbox 360

  • Neogeo Battle Coliseum - June 1 - June 15
  • Injustice: Gods Among Us - June 16 - June 30
