19 companies have been confirmed for next month's Gamescom. Some of the bigger names to be in attendance include Xbox, Actisivion, EA, and Bethesda.

The video game industry has become accustomed to virtual events over the course of the past 16 months. Even though the world is slowly starting to open back up, that isn't going to completely change anytime soon. Gamescom 2021, for instance, which will take place at the end of next month will be an entirely virtual event for the second year in a row.

As for who and what you can look forward to seeing during the event, Gamescom has revealed 19 of the companies that will be represented over the course of the weekend. There are some big names in there including Xbox, Bethesda, Activision, EA, and Bandai Namco. There will also be 80 “curated top indie titles” at the show.

As was the case with Summer Game Fest earlier this year, Geoff Keighly will be kicking off the festivities when Gamescom gets underway next month. Opening Night Live will take place on Wednesday, August 25, 2021, and the main show featuring presentations from the above companies and a host of others will happen during the two days and weekend after that.

The Gamescom team hoped to hold a physical convention this year, at least in part. It held out until the beginning of May before it made a u-turn on that decision, admitting defeat and moving to an all-virtual show for the second year in a row. That's not as bad a sacrifice to make as it might seem. While an actual convention sounds great right about now, Gamescom 2020's Opening Night Live attracted two million viewers, quadrupling the number from the prior year.

Now you know some of the companies that will be in attendance at this year's Gamescom, the wild speculation can begin. Bandai Namco showing up could well mean we get more Elden Ring news, and if Xbox and Bethesda team up for a presentation like they did at E3 more Starfield news could be incoming. Feel free to speculate wildly between now and opening night on August 25.
