The Kingdom Hearts series blends the worlds of Disney and Final Fantasy together, and with it comes some awesome references. Today, we'll be looking at the references within the keychains of Kingdom Hearts 3.
Every keyblade has a unique design from the worlds they are from, but the magic that they draw their power from are the keychains you unlock throughout the worlds (at least in the original Kingdom Hearts). The chains down below all reference the films in a fun way.
The Grand Chef
A deep reference from the film Ratatouille is chained to the Grand Chef keyblade. It takes the shape of the Eiffel Tower glimmering during the night, but the chain references a cookbook from Master Chef Gusteau. Remy, the rat you meet in Kingdom Hearts 3, looks up to the French master and eventually takes over his restaurant before it is closed down. It's awesome such a small reference from the movie made it into the game.
Happy Gear
This is one of the most creative keyblades in the game with an alarm light on the top of the blade and the Monster's Inc logo on the hilt, but if you look at the chain, you'll see Boo's monster costume! Sully and Mike look after the lost child as they scramble to find a way to return her to the human world. Boo wears this adorable purple disguise when they enter the Monster's Inc factory.
Crystal Snow
The keyblade itself takes the form of Elsa's Castle from the movie, but shortly after she made the icy building, she created Olaf. Love him or hate him, he is on the keychain of the Crystal Snow keyblade, smiling at Sora's foes. Let's hope he doesn't melt.
Nano Gear
While the world is disappointing to play in, the Big Hero 6 keyblade Nano Gear certainly isn't. There are multiple references to the films in this one keyblade. The tip's design is inspired by the nanogear Hiro Hamada makes in the movie, and the face of the hilt shows the happy and angry side of his little fighting robot from the beginning of Big Hero 6. If you look at the keychain, it actually references the healthcare chip that Hiro puts into Baymax, his cuddly healthcare companion.
The Wheel of Fate
The Wheel of Fate is a cool keyblade with excellent reach, but it also has a few sweet references to Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest. The hilt has Jack's all-important compass that leads him to where he needs to go. The creepy keychain is the key to Davy Jones' chest, skulls and all.
