The debate about The Last of Us Part 2 will probably never end. Opinions about the narrative, characters, gameplay, and more will always be a hotbed of discussion for gamers. One thing about the game that cannot be debated, though, is the high level of detail that Naughty Dog put into even the most insignificant things. Sure, we all marvel over the rope physics, animations, and facial details, but the team went way beyond what any normal player would notice going through the game naturally.

As highlighted by Reddit user Drakowicz, it seems that someone at Naughty Dog took the time to add physics to all the toilet seats in the game. Shown in the below video, if you approach a toilet and nudge the barrel of your gun under the seat, the seat will lift as you raise your gun into the upright position. There's no functional reason to lift any toilet seats, but rather it's is just another touch of detail that makes the world of The Last of Us Part 2 more in line with reality.

Is there any point in being able to lift a toilet seat in The Last of Us Part 2? No, not really. Does it add to immersion? Maybe, but for most people probably not. This is such a small detail that it should probably be considered more of an Easter Egg than actual feature of the game. We don't know for sure, but would guess that the vast majority of players barely even looked at the toilets in-game for more than a second or two, let alone inspected them to the degree that Drakowicz did.

In terms of immersion, the fact that the lids can only be interacted with by pushing your gun against them doesn't really mesh well with reality. On the other hand, you probably wouldn't want to touch a public toilet seat with your hands at the best of times, let alone in the post apocalypse, so maybe it is realistic... Who knows, the diseases that might be living on that seat might be worse than the cordyceps that have zombified the majority of the world.
