Since Maneater is a silly, open-world shark game, so it's not surprising to learn that it's filled to the brim with pop culture references. Within the game, you can find easter eggs alluding to a variety of intellectual properties like Titanic, Spongebob Squarepants, Waterworld, and even Killing Floor, the popular FPS created by Maneater's developer Tripwire.

Most of these nods to popular franchises simply throw in one object and have Chris Parnell say a witty one-liner about it. However, Maneater's It reference goes one step further.

If you head to this location on the map, then you'll find this unusually happy yet ominous children's entertainer hanging out in Caviar Key:

Tripwire decided to have Pennywise himself show up to torment the mindless eating machine that the player controls. It's actually kind of intimidating, as the clown just stands behind an inaccessible grate staring at the shark while holding his signature red balloon. Everything about this easter egg, from the red lighting to the randomness of its location, is enough to inspire a legitimate feeling of dread even though you're a literal killer shark with bone teeth.

It also raises a series of questions, such as how does Pennywise breathe so well underwater? Does he breathe at all? And why is he seemingly so interested in the titular shark of Maneater? Sadly, we'll probably never know the answers to these questions. What's even sadder is that since the two can't interact with one another, we'll never find out who would win in the classic battle of clown vs. shark.
