When you think of romance in the video game world, you probably wouldn't think about poor, lonely Wario. Sure he's a gassy, overweight, cheap criminal, but that doesn't mean he doesn't deserve love. Yet it seems like every princess in the Mushroom Kingdom wants a piece of boring old Mario, or his skinny, cowardly brother.

Well, except for one princess. It seems like there may be a lady in Wario's life after all, although for whatever reason, their affair seems to be clouded in secrecy. But much like something out of a sordid soap opera, the truth appears to have come out during a fancy party.

The cat's out of the bag, and it looks like Princess Daisy has a bit of a thing for the big, burly yellow man. As revealed by @MarioBrothBlog, in the German version of Mario Party 5, the pairing of Wario and Daisy is referred to as "Heimlich Liebende," which translates in English to "secret lovers." Scandalous!

This is an incredibly shocking development, as most fans would have assumed that Daisy was with Luigi, at least if the Super Mario Bros. movie is anything to go by. This means that Luigi and Daisy have long since gone their separate ways. Either that, or Daisy has been covertly canoodling with Wario this whole time behind the lanky plumber's back.

Their relationship isn't as absurd as it seems. Aside from the fact that both characters have a fondness for the color yellow, Daisy could very well be attracted to Wario's brash, crude nature, as well as his entrepreneurial aspirations. It's also possible that they came together as a result of their low social standings. They've both been overshadowed by other members of the Mushroom Kingdom, with Mario proving to be a more popular hero than Wario, and Peach having more responsibility and regality than Daisy (what exactly is Daisy the princess of anyway?). The two may have commiserated with each other over their lots in life, and after finding out they had so much in common, an unlikely romance bloomed.

Although it's questionable how people in the Mushroom Kingdom might react to their love, since a princess dating a guy who once tried to take over the kingdom with some magic coins may not go over well.

This is certainly an interesting addition to the Mario canon, and it makes one wonder why German translators decided to ship these two characters together. But we're glad they did, because their love is the kind of love we can all get behind. It's a a regular snob falls for slob kind of story. With their relationship now revealed to the world, we eagerly await the CBS sitcom based on this mismatched couple.
