Garmin, which specializes in GPS technology, has launched a new esports smartwatch that has been developed to help players track and livestream biometric data. The Instinct Esports Edition features a range of health and fitness tracking technology as well as custom gaming features that can monitor heart rate and stress levels during esports competitions and track long-term trends.

According to Dan Bartel, Garmin Vice President of Sales, “Elite athletes around the world depend on Garmin products to monitor and improve their performance. With the Instinct Esports Edition, esports athletes can tap into that same technology to track and examine how their body responds to intense competition.”

He added that players can use the smartwatch’s data to adjust sleep patterns, including a breakdown of light, deep and REM sleep stages, or activity levels for enhanced intellectual and physical performance while competing. In esports mode, the smartwatch, which displays heart rate, stress levels, time of day, and a game timer, can be synced to the Garmin Connect app to store and track data for individual games in an effort to enhance performance.

In addition to its data functions, the smartwatch also includes a STR3AMUP! PC streaming tool that lets users livestream biometric data online to esports viewers. Available in a black and red color scheme, the new smartwatch features a high-contrast display and a “rugged,” lightweight design, as well as, up to 80 hours of battery life in esports mode and up to 14 days in smartwatch mode. In terms of durability, the watch has been designed to military standards (MIL-STD 810) and features a scratch-resistant display.

On the official Garmin website, the Instinct Esports Edition Watch is listed at $299.99 in the US and £269.99 in the UK. The new Garmin esports watch somewhat resembles the FNATIC x Gucci Limited Edition Gucci Dive watch released earlier this year. In contrast, though, the Gucci watch included none of the smartwatch features of the Instinct and was listed at $1,620.
