Gearbox wants Borderlands to be way more than just a looter-shooter video game series. They’d also like it to grow into a TV show, toys, and maybe even a theme park.

Borderlands is a great franchise, of that we can all agree. But a theme park? That’s ambitious. Not the least because pretty much any locale that can support a theme park has already got one.

With the release of Borderlands 3 mere days away, Gearbox creative director Paul Sage spoke to VG247 about his desires for the Borderlands franchise. This guy has either been getting high on his own supply or he’s got some truly amazing plans for the series.

"We were talking the other day about, would it be a good, almost like an anime-type thing?" Sage told VG247. “You know, somebody brought up ‘Love, Death & Robots’ to me, and I was like, oh hell yeah! That’d be a lot of fun. I’d love to see things like that, honestly.”

For those that have missed it, Love, Death & Robots is a series of short animation that airs on Netflix. If you have any love for either science fiction animation, including ones which deal with love, death, and robots, then you should definitely watch that show.

“We’ll see what the future holds," Sage said. "I mean, hopefully, people love the game. And hopefully, they love all the source material and they want to do that.”

Besides an anime-style streaming show, Sage said he'd love to see Borderlands action figures (or at least, more mainstream toys than the ones Gearbox has made for earlier Borderlands games), as well as one big thing: a theme park.

“A Borderlands theme park… Yes! I’ll take a Borderlands theme park!” Sage said.

We know that Borderlands is already trying to get a major motion picture going through Lionsgate, but we haven’t heard anything beyond the fact that the script is still being written. A synopsis leaked a few months ago, and what we read was not exactly the stuff of legends.
