The release of the fifth game in the Gears of War lineup, Gears 5, is soon approaching. However, the wait might not be too bad with the technical test coming out in a few days. The “Tech Test” will allow fans to get a feel for many of the game's features and give important feedback to developers. This is all to ensure the smoothest release possible.

Coalition Studio first announced Gears 5 during E3 in 2018 and delivered a new trailer, Escape, for the game during E3 2019. The last Gears of War game came out in 2016, so needless to say, the hype has been building for a while. The tech test will give content-hungry fans the chance to get a taste of the gameplay before everyone else.

The test features three different modes that can be played on two brand new multiplayer maps. The first mode is Arcade. Here, players can expect a new Versus experience. Escalation, the game’s competitive mode, is “back and better than ever.” Lastly, they also brought back King of the Hill. This is a multiplayer mode where the goal is to capture a point and “enjoy the carnage.” These game modes were available in previous installments of the series. It will definitely be interesting to see if they introduce any big changes to the mechanics for Gears 5.

Other than the game modes, players will also have access to some new features such as Bootcamp and Tour of Duty. Bootcamp is a training mode where gamers can learn new mechanics as well as practice their skills. This will be a big help with brushing up on techniques or just prepping new players before they join official matches. Tour of Duty lets players compete for Medals that can unlock exclusive Tester Weapon Skins. If all three Medals are completed, it unlocks a banner. All of these items can be brought over to Gears 5 when the full release drops.

Coalition Studio promises to give more information about Gears 5 around the time of the tech test release. The test will be available on Xbox One and PC.  Downloads start on July 17th at 10am PDT. The first test period officially begins on July 19th at 10am PDT, and runs until July 22nd at 10am PDT. The second period will be available from July 26th at 10am PDT, until July 29th at 10am PDT.
