The Gears Of War franchise sports many characters in its lore, but not all of them get the same amount of attention. Gears 5's Fahz can often be overshadowed by the other characters in his team, but we think Fahz deserves his time in the spotlight.

He's credited as one of the best characters in the series, and yet there's still so much to learn about Fahz and his complexities. He has facets rarely explored in-game, so it's our duty out of the game to get to know Fahz and all the cool details that make him a guy to remember.

10 Fahz's Character Overview

Fahz Concept Art

Fahz Chutani was born in 20 A.E, post the Locust War. He's a human male who stands at 1.85 meters, which is just over 6-feet-tall. His cybernetic leg is as memorable as his signature sunglasses. He's an offensive member of any tactical team he's on, and definitely will not let you forget that he is a ranked soldier--specifically, first lieutenant. Don't forget it!

9 He Was A Refugee

Destroyed Vasgar

Despite his unrelenting dedication to the Coalition of Ordered Governments, Fahz was not always intended to be a member. Fahz's parents originated from Vasgar, a nation that was under Union of Integrated Republics control at the time of his parents' fleeing.

The UIR was in the process of eliminating all doctors in Vasgar, forcing Fahz's parents to run to have any hope of surviving as a family. Sadly, his father was captured and presumably executed for his position as a medical professional. Fahz's mother (and in turn, Fahz) escaped to the COG, thus saving their lives.

8 A Golden Boy

Fahz In Combat

After joining the COG Military Academy, Fahz wanted nothing more than to be the fastest, strongest, and most successful soldier in the history of the program. Competition is one of Fahz's driving motivations as a character. His pure dedication to the COG and its goals earned him the title of "golden boy" from First Minister Mina Jinn, along with his buddies Del and JD. Though he has done some morally questionable things to fulfill the COG's wishes, he still sees himself as a dutiful soldier simply doing what is required of him.

7 He's A Tank

Fahz With Weapon

Fahz looks like a tank when you first meet him and his appearance is only half of the story. This can be especially obvious in Horde Mode. Fahz is a sniper, making his damage powerful yet precise. He is a headshot master and can take out whole swaths of enemies if you're careful with your aim. And even if the enemy doesn't go down, Fahz's weaponry has great stunning power so you can keep yourself from getting swarmed. Multiplayer just got a lot more fun with Fahz on your side.

6 Fahz Has X-Ray Vision In Battle

X-Ray In Combat

While this is just for gameplay purposes, it's something important to know if you want to really wreck shop with Fahz. Fahz can see enemies through walls when in battle. That much is obvious enough, but the power doesn't end there. He can shoot through the walls at those enemies revealed by his x-ray vision. The game is right when it calls this power Fahz's Ultimate Ability.

5 Loyal To A Fault

Fahz's commitment to the COG is obvious as you interact with him, but this can cloud his judgment. One of the most pressing moments where Fahz's dedication shows through is the Settlement 2 Protest Massacre in which he and Del opened fire on a crowd of protestors.

While his counterparts Del and JD went AWOL (from disillusionment and guilt), Fahz remained steadfast in his role in the massacre. He believed his actions were justified because their mission was to quell the protest, and therefore feels no guilt towards the event and its outcome.

4 You Might Recognize His Voice

Fahz Close Up

Fahz's voice might be familiar if you watch a lot of tv and Netflix. He's voiced by Rahul Kohli who is popular for his roles in iZombie and in the Netflix Original series The Haunting of Bly Manor. While Owen Sharma from the Netflix Original isn't a comedic role, Kohli brings the humor of Fahz to life like he was born to it. Though his IMDb page is a little sparse, seeing Fahz added to Kohli's repertoire is a plus for gaming and movie fans alike. A possible movie voiceover, maybe?

3 Is He Looking For A Fight? Probably

Argumentative Fahz

Fahz isn't always the most likable guy, often being described as arrogant, smug, and just all-around unpleasant to be around. He's confrontational and will always challenge any opposition, especially if they question his moral stronghold. He often gets into fights with Del over the consequences of their actions, Del finding their actions unforgivable while Fahz justifying them.

2 He Cares, Just Quietly

Fahz

Despite his confrontational nature, Fahz is not a brute without feelings. He expresses genuine respect and care for his team and will become loyal as long as his teammates are loyal in return. While Fahz hasn't always gotten along with JD and Fahz, he finds himself genuinely missing them when they're not around. When Kait was under the target of Mina Jinn, his two loyalties clashed and he ended up choosing to side with Kait and abandon his unquestionable faith in the COG and Minister Jinn. He's a caring man who hides his emotions under jokes and confidence. You probably know someone like that too.

1 Fahz Is More Than Comic Relief

Gears Of War 5 Promotional Material

While Fahz may not be the fan-favorite of the bunch, Fahz has more to offer the game than just a laugh. He's another character of color in the cast, a tank in combat, and has a complex story of his own. But if he makes you laugh and that helps deal with the horribly depressing and sometimes nihilistic landscape of Gears of War, then that's just as useful as the Hammer of Dawn.
