It’s official: Gears 5 has gone gold.

On Friday, August 9th at 8 AM, Gears 5 developer The Coalition announced that the latest game in the Gears franchise has finally gone gold. That means a master disc has been sent to disc manufacturers to create hundreds of thousands of copies which will later be sold in stores or sent directly to customers.

Going gold used to mean that a developer’s work was done and it was time to take a break, but ever since the advent of the internet and massive day-1 patches, going gold is more a symbolic event than anything else. We expect The Coalition is still hard at work hunting down bugs to fix them before the game releases later in September.

“From all of us at The Coalition, we couldn’t be more excited to share Gears 5 with the world. I want to thank the team here who have worked so hard for our fans, and we all hope you are all as excited as we are to play Gears 5,” said Rod Fergusson, Studio Head at The Coalition. “This is furthest we have ever taken the franchise, living our studio mantra of ‘if you want to go far go together’.”

Gears 5 will have five different game modes to entice players, including a campaign, Versus, Horde, Escape, and even a map builder to make custom missions. Gears will show off its Horde mode at Microsoft's presentation at Gamescom on August 19th, followed by the reveal of the game's campaign story trailer.

The Coalition also revealed the game’s full achievement list today, with 71 achievements in total. You can check out the full list on the Xbox news update.

Gears 5 will focus on Kait Diaz, an outsider of Locust origin, with most of the game revolving around discovering Kait's origins and the fate of her family. Gears of War 4 protagonist JD Fenix will return along with Delmont Walker and former series lead Marcus Fenix.

You won't have to wait long to get your hands on Gears 5. The game drops on September 6th for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers, and for everyone else on September 10th.
