Gears 5 is coming to Xbox Series X/S in a big way next month. It's been revealed that not only will the graphics see a massive overhaul, but we'll also be getting a huge campaign update, New Game+ mode, and sweeping changes to the game's multiplayer.

As far as graphics are concerned, you can expect to see drastically improved shadows over the current Xbox One version. You'll also get to experience 60fps cinematics and screen space global illumination – a technique that "increases the quality of the lighting and shadowing." There will also be a massive reduction in texture pop-in, thanks to the increased power of Series X.

While fancier graphics are great, The Coalition is also planning to expand Gears 5's campaign. On November 10 you can expect to see new difficulty modes (Ironman and Inconceivable), new skins for Kait, Del, and JD, new weapon skins, Mutators (such as Big Head Mode), and new achievements. Ironman mode gives you one life for the entire campaign, while the Inconceivable difficulty is one notch higher than all other difficulties in the game.

Dave Bautista of WWE fame will also show up in the campaign as a skin for Marcus Fenix. Apparently fans loved him so much when he debuted in multiplayer, that The Coalition decided to bring him over to the action-packed campaign.

As for multiplayer, if you're playing Gears 5 on Series X/S you'll be able to run it at 120fps. It also supports crossplay with both PC and Xbox One users. Other changes to multiplayer are a bit vaguer, but the team is hoping to bring more maps with the next update – Operation 5 – and feature a cohesive theme with any new content introduced.

Besides the graphical enhancements, all these changes will also land on Xbox One. Seeing the hit title updated for next-gen consoles should help give it a longer shelf-life and provide us with a high-octane multiplayer experience on day one.

Best of all, this Gears 5 content will be free to current owners who upgrade to Series X.
