Halo: The Master Chief Collection not only brought together all of Chief's adventures in one neatly tied package, but also ensured that series fans could continue playing their favourite games. MCC sees between 3000 to 6000 daily peak concurrent players according to SteamDB, and that's a respectable range to keep the series fresh in the minds of players. Perhaps that's why rumours started kicking up about another Microsoft first-party series getting the same treatment (thanks, VGC).

Nick Baker of XboxEra, who claims to have inside knowledge about the project, thinks that the Gears of War series will be next in line to receive a collection like that of Halo. “A while back I said there is another Microsoft franchise that’s getting the Master Chief Collection-type treatment, I am of the belief that that is coming this year,” he said on a recent episode of the podcast.

Baker reiterated his point by saying "if you go from November 2021 to November 2022 and you look at Microsoft’s big game output, it could wind up being Halo, Gears, Forza”. It wouldn't make sense for Forza to have such a collection, so it could only be Gears of War.

A Gears collection would be a great way to let fans relive the stories from the older titles, and even loop in new players before the rumoured upcoming Gears project. The Coalition wouldn't have to worry about the series feeling dated, as forum discussions have come to the conclusion that the Gears of War series has indeed stood the test of time.

The discussion kicked off when a Resetera user posted their experience with the series, which they were able to complete thanks to Xbox backward compatibility. “So far, I’ve enjoyed the games in terms of their gameplay, characters, and story. It was nice to see how Epic Games got better with each entry and expanded upon its formula even though you couldn't go far with the linear first person shooter genre back then.”

Most of the answers the user received were positive, with people recalling how they felt while playing the games when they initially launched.
