Genesis is a multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) that released on PS4 in August 2019 and is currently free to play on the platform. It has a wide variety of characters that fit into the traditional MOBA roles, as well as fresh innovations that provide an exciting approach to the genre. Porting a MOBA to consoles is no easy feat, but Genesis does a good job bringing the experience into a controller friendly environment with its polish and an easy to learn mechanical system.

The appeal of Genesis primarily is in the characters that it has in store for the player. These champions have unique and engaging abilities that promote a wide variety of gameplay suited for any player who is new to the genre or a veteran of MOBAs.

10 Apollo

Apollo is the quintessential marksman found in almost any MOBA that has been made. A bow-wielding ranged character that has high damage easy to use abilities, he has the capability of putting out huge numbers late game, as well as some area of effect crowd control to help him keep the distance and allow farming in the early game.

He is the easiest character to jump into a game with and learn how the systems in Genesis work for a new player, and his ultimate ability can’t miss. Apollo has a kit best suited for players looking to work in a duo lane and meshes well with a tank-like Joules (who is also on this list).

9 Galath

Galath is a warrior class sword fighter that is unlocked after the player logs in to Genesis after a certain number of days. So, as a free character, he is commonly overlooked in online play as being too simple. However, his high level of sustain allows him to move in and out of fights with relative ease that can be valuable to a team, especially in the mid-game when soaking up damage becomes more important.

Galath can initiate and stay in the mix while other damage focused characters lay down fire, especially if he is built with the right tank items. Along with a stun, he is a versatile character that can fit in almost any team composition.

8 Flamas

The traditional caster mage, Flamas is a psionic class powerhouse of energy damage (the Genesis version of ability power). Flamas comes out of the gate strong as a solo laner and is able to hold his own in the early game skirmishes. If he does well in lane, Flamas can also crush in the mid to late game with plenty of energy damage.

However, it is necessary to gain a lead over a lane opponent to flourish as a source of damage. This makes Flamas a bit higher difficulty for the player, but, if his kit can be mastered and put to use, his ranged area of effect abilities and heavy-hitting ultimate will be worth the hassle of safe farming early on in the match.

7 Kat-X

Another marksman that is useful in Genesis, Kat-X is a great addition to the champion pool. She excels when building attack speed and cooldown reduction to accentuate her abilities. She farms well and has great fight potential. However, she has to get in close to be used to her full potential.

For this reason, her skill ceiling is fairly high, as rushing in with her dash could cost the player their life if Kat-X doesn’t have the damage to close out the fight. That being said, if she is in trouble, her dash can be a lifesaver, especially when dealing with threats in the early game when she is forced to farm for resources.

6 Joules

Probably one of the most exciting characters to play in Genesis, Joules is a psionic tank that excels at AOE energy damage and limited crowd control abilities. His area shocks not only can help chunk an enemy health bar but also provides a heal for the walking reptile that adds to his sustain and engagement capability. He is a prime candidate for tank mains that want to be able to keep dealing damage over long periods. His biggest flaw seems to be that his movement speed is very low to balance his ability to control a large area.

5 Nameless

The ninja of Genesis, Nameless is a sword-wielding assassin that is meant to jungle. His camp clear is strong and his gank ability can’t be matched. With high burst damage output in a team fight, it is best for Nameless to hang out on the periphery until enemy health bars start ticking down to half.

Once all in on a fight though, Nameless will clean up with deadly efficiency and have the gold to keep him well ahead of the enemy. Nameless is a good jungler to learn for any Genesis player.

4 Minotaur

A high sustain warrior, Minotaur is commonly played as a support character. However, his damage output is high enough that he is effective as a crowd control brawler who can hold his own in a one-on-one with just about any other character.

Minotaur can keep the enemy team knocked up and slowed long enough for his team to get kills or escape if the fight isn’t going their way. His only real shortcoming is map traversal. He moves slowly without the right boots and is susceptible to being caught alone in the jungle when warding.

3 Jones

A Kraken-taming hook character, Jones is a good choice for players looking to learn how to play the support role. His hook has a long-range that works through walls and area of effect abilities that keep an opponent in his clutches.

Mastering Jones may not come quite so quickly as his sustain is not as high as other supports, but his ability to isolate enemy players can sway the tides into his favor at any point in the match. His ultimate also functions very well as a crowd control mechanic in addition to dealing huge area damage.

2 E60

E60 is a hulking mechanical tank class that can soak up damage and provides large amounts of crowd control. As one of the biggest targets in the game, E60 can tank the damage from an entire enemy team and still walk away from the engagement with a quarter of his health untouched. He also has an ultimate ability that will allow him to cut off a fleeing enemy or dive directly into a fight to support his team.

E60 can be played solo as a tank or as a support that provides harassment and engagement potential for his lane mate. Lack of speed seems to be his biggest weakness, and his damage output is also on the lower side of the character pool.

1 Popollock

A flying psionic mechanical bug, Popollock is a mage that is best used in a solo lane. His primary focus should be on bullying his opponent out of lane with his high energy damage and built-in life steal.

A high-risk, high-reward character, Poppollock needs to get kills to be effective. His abilities provide him with a kit that can burst down the enemy with relative ease so long as the player has the mechanical skill to make it happen. The most glaring danger Poppollock has is that his ultimate forces him to inhabit his opponent no matter where the enemy goes. Make sure the enemy isn’t running back into his team during a fight when deciding to go Alien on them.
