Amber is such an oddity in Genshin Impact because she’s one of the most beloved characters while also being the one made fun of the most. This Mondstadt Outrider is adored for her characterization and story, yet hated for her skills and overall DPS.

But that’s not the only thing that doesn’t add up for this bunny-themed Knight of Favonius. No, Amber actually has quite a few aspects that make little sense, so let’s look into that.

10 Phantom Headband Twitches?

Genshin Impact: A Closer Look At Amber's Headband

So, it’s pretty clear that Amber is themed after a rabbit. Her compact shorts make her legs stand out intentionally more, like a rabbit. She uses Baron Bunny, a rabbit-themed mini-version of herself. And, the way her headband is tied at the top makes it looks eerily similar to a pair of bunny ears. But, what’s even weirder is that these ear-shaped ends to the headband have a habit of twitching on their own sometimes! Fans have caught this happening when Amber isn’t even moving too. Maybe that whole Rabbit aesthetic goes deeper than it seems.

9 How Does Baron Bunny Even Work?

Genshin Impact: Amber Hugging Baron Bunny

It’s hard to say where Amber’s trusted distraction doll, Baron Bunny, came from. In one of her voicelines, Amber talks about sewing one for the Traveler and says that it isn’t explosive because she sewed it, which also implies that she doesn’t make the explosive ones. The most common theory is that either Klee or Alice came up with the idea and now Klee (the mysterious little bomb-making elf) just makes her new ones when she needs them. But, that's just a theory (of which there are plenty), so where do these Baron Bunnies actually come from? When they explode do they actually blow to bits? Or, is Amber using the same Bunny every time and it somehow stays intact? It’s all just so confusing!

8 What Is With That Random Leg Strap?

Genshin Impact: A Closer Look At That Random Leg Strap

Alright so the intention here isn’t to tear Genshin down for its character designs, they’re undeniably fantastic. But, there are some odd design choices for specific characters. One is Paimon’s random long sock on one side, another is that oddly placed wrist guard that Bennet only wears on his left, and then there's the random leg strap on Amber. This thing, as far as people can tell, has no practical use whatsoever, which puts it in the “throw more belts and pouches on it” tier of design that Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy, and other classic franchises are known for. Mihoyo likely uses these little accessories to add a bit of asymmetry to their designs, but contextually, they just don't make sense.

7 How Did She Light A Dendro Slime On Fire As A Child?

Genshin Impact: Grown-Up Barbara Burning A Dendro Slime With Her Vision

So, Amber’s backstory has a bit of inconsistency. Fans know that Amber got her Vision the moment she decided to be courageous and keep the Outriders going, it just appeared in front of her. This is the same Vision that allows Amber to channel Pyro energy into her arrows or other objects.

But, if Amber didn’t get her Pyro powers until then, how did she manage to get her Grandfather in trouble as a kid by accidentally setting a Dendro Slime on fire like it says she did in Story 1? There’s no way Amber was just carrying a flaming arrow on her, or that she decided to light a random bush (that turned out to be a Dendro Slime) aflame, and it’s also very unlikely that the Slime just hopped into their campfire, so how did this fiery accident occur?

6 Her Doll Rarely Distracts Like It Was Designed To Do

Genshin Impact: Baron Bunny Trying To Distract

Next, here's an aspect of Amber that doesn’t make sense from a gameplay perspective. And, of course, it all comes back to Baron Bunny. The primary usage of this skill is to group up and distract enemies so that Amber can pepper them with arrows while the Baron blows them up. But, in actuality, Baron Bunny rarely distracts the enemies at all, and the explosion radius is way too small. Which means this Elemental Skill isn't making it onto the "Best Of" list anytime soon. But, the doll's entire purpose is to distract! So why is it that it can’t do its job? Obviously, this is more on the devs than Amber herself, but a distraction device that doesn't distract makes no sense at all.

5 How Is Her Gliding Comparable To Venti's?

Genshin Impact: Amber Using The Glider

The Passive Abilities in Genshin Impact are all pretty worthwhile, though some are much more useful than others. For example, it’s nice that Barbara has a chance to double healing-based meals while cooking, but Venti literally lets the party glide for longer in general. Oh, Amber has that gliding passive too...which implies that her gliding skills are on the same level as the literal Anemo Archon? That seems a bit absurd, doesn’t it? Sure, she’s Mondstadt’s Gliding Champion but Venti was literally birthed from Anemo energy!

4 Why Was She So Afraid Of A Couple Of Hilichurls?

Genshin Impact: Amber Acting Cowardly In The Webtoon

For people who haven’t read or seen the official Genshin Impact comic/manwha/webtoon, it’s pretty fantastic! In one of the earlier Chapters, Amber stumbles across a Hilichurl camp relatively close to Mondstadt. No Mitachurls, not even any Hilichurl Mages, just a bunch of basic Hilichurl grunts. Yet, Amber almost retreats from this confrontation entirely because she thinks it's too much for her to handle? This is the same girl who carries around an explosive doll meant for distracting groups and was granted superpowers by the gods, yet she can’t handle 3-4 Hilichurls? That makes 0 sense whatsoever.

3 What Happened To Collei? Why Doesn't Amber Ever Mention Her?

Genshin Impact: Amber Hanging Out With Collei

Collei is a name common Genshin players probably haven’t heard, but it’s the name of a character who is very important to Amber. In the previously mentioned Webtoon, Amber ends up meeting a troubled girl named Collei with a strange affliction caused by “Archon Residue” experiments. A whole series of events takes place, and Collei is eventually cured before heading to Sumeru Academia to learn more about the world around her.

These two were close, and Collei made a big impact on Amber’s life, yet she’s mentioned nowhere in any of Amber’s voice-lines, her story summary, or even in passing from other NPCs. It’s just so odd how this character obviously has some importance to the overall story of Genshin, yet Amber doesn’t mention her at all.

2 What Even Happened To Amber's Parents?

Amber Parents

So, what happened to Amber’s parents anyway? Fans are positive that they’re long since dead, but when, and why? Amber only mentions her grandfather when it comes to family, and doesn’t even have a passing line that mentions what happened to her birth parents. Why is Amber all alone in this big city? Where is her mom, or even her grandmother? It wouldn’t such a sticking point but so much of Amber’s story revolves around her Grandfather that players have to wonder about her other family.

1 Why Does She Not Recruit More Outriders?

Genshin Impact: Amber Talking About Being An Outrider

Once Amber’s Grandfather just decides to up and leave one day, the Outrider division of the Knights of Favonius quickly falls apart. Amber was much more rowdy and rebellious when she was younger, so she didn’t exactly pick up her Grandpa’s mantle right after he left. That said, Amber eventually becomes a pretty respectable Knight. So, why doesn’t she put that same amount of work into re-building up the Outrider Division? Yes, she makes it clear that one of her main goals is to become a fantastic Outrider like her Grandpa, but shouldn’t that also mean recruiting new people and making sure she's not the only remaining member of the faction?
